I am a member of the Cortina Capri Car Club and there is a guy who advertises in the newsletter who is supposed to be good with old school small fords. I haven't been a member long and I have never used him, but the feeling I got from other club members was positive. I'll get his contact details for you so you can have a chat.

Do you have a budget in mind?

How 'radical' do you want to be with the engine?

What is the condition of the core engine ? or are you looking to go with new components?

What will the engine be used for? race or road?

Cheers

as for the budget im only getting ideas at the moment therefore i can find out what i can do and how much things will cost. i want to be making around the 130 to 140 hp mark. the condition is unknown as its still in the car, its original and unopened done 150,000 km. egine will be used for street but really only on eekends n stuff like that, id really love for it to be lumpy but go hard with out too much comprimise on drivability. but i may make some comprimises lol

Well without a budget it's hard to help you...
Maybe start off with a cam (a cheap and easy upgrade) and some new rings....

If you want to get serious...steel crank, steel main caps, dry sump, forged pistons, etc etc etc... then I could help...

I still have contacts back in the UK...
Cheers

i like your thinking... i havent been around motors as long as most people on these forums but.... 130/140 for a 1600 Xflow and still a streeter/ weekender i think would be a pain in the *** for a street car. mine makes close to 70 at the wheels and can be a bit of a pig sometimes....? just my input though.

engine guy, rough guess though but my budget would be around 5 -7 grand. with i know a few people here in adelaide if that helps with getting better prices if i could. what sorta work needs to be done, and do you kno if any of the parts are 'gettable' in adelaide.

The guy Feral is talking about is Kerry Seranndis at Pitstop. I think his workshop is at Hindmarsh somewhere. I have bought some stuff for my Mk1 off him. He is a decent bloke to deal with.

Try Here:
Pitstop Service Centre
11 Mary St / PO Box 132
Hindmarsh
SA 5007
Tel / Fax: 61 8 8340 3321
Email: pitstop@adam.com.au
For Cortina enthusiasts, new, used, recond parts. Engines built to order, recond and secondhand gearboxes, steering and suspension parts, incl. urethane bushes. Wrecking Mk.I and Mk.II Cortinas.

I'f I were doing this engine the parts would be imported from my contacts in the UK...

Don't know anywhere in Adelaide who would have parts I'd want to use!

With parts plus freight $7K would disapear quite easily... but perhaps a fast road build 'could' be done for the $7K budget. (depending on the donor/core condition of course)

BTW, this is going into a road going, everyday street car - yes??
don't need dry sump etc etc??

Cheers

cars to be driven on weekends only, so street driving only. I have considered boost, but i'd prefer NA because i am still on my p's.

Engine Guy, what do you mean by fast road? what sort of power would this combo be making?

'Fast road' is a term used in the UK (at least it was when I was there)

It is possible to get 100hp per litre from a N/A Kent engine (although that would call for high RPM)

I would aim for around 75hp per litre for a 'well mannered' Kent street spec engine.

What area of Adelaide are you in?

im in the north. i spoke to burtons and they supplied with a supposed proven set up producing 135 - 145 hp. it consists of overboring to 1700, twin 40s and kent 244 and various other bits. ive got the here with me. where abouts are you located engine guy? micky ive already toyed with that idea, by the time the car would be engineered it would closer to 15g's which is a bit too much for my liking. the car doesnt have to be the fastest on the street its jus a project that i can enjoy.

I'm in the southern suburbs..

Do you have the Burton supplied components? or just some bits that you'd like to use in the build 'as well'

PM me if you want my contact details...
