Have carried out the conversion myself, u will require:

Manual gearbox EA to AU. (However the Ea to EL box has a shorter bell housing, so slight tunnel hole rectification is required)
Flywheel. (EA to EL have a different flywheel but will fit, however smaller clutch)
Pedal box (out of AU)
clutch cable (out of AU),
Tailshaft will fit straight from auto the manual.
And last but not least, invest in a short shift kit. 385 dollars from Malwood in QLD.
Good luck. U wont regret the change. AUTO's are worthless........

Also u will need the manual ecu, as the resistor trick in the ea - els dont work on the au wiring, or u just take ya car to a tuner or ford to get the to flash it

Check out my build thread as there is a fair amount of info for this as i have done it on my wagon.

Pretty much all of the manual stuff will be needed, pedal box (as yours is series III try and get one from a series II or III otherwise you will need to drill new holes in a series I) i found out the hard way, gear box, clutch cable, bell housing, flywheel, clutch kit i have heard that sedans can use the auto drive shaft, i couldn't in my wagon therefore had a custom one made up.

Then the fun part to get the ecu sorted. It will run and drive on an auto ecu but your thermo fans will be on full blast (no temp input fromm auto trans), not sure if you can have an auto ecu re flashed but i just got a new ecu (correct series manual) through injectronics (a link to their page with a million codes (Injectronics) . They wouldn't deal with me directly though. Ecu alone cost $350 after $200 back from swapping another one. And then the new ecu needs to be programmed.

Lastly i got this done at my local mechanic i go to Mick at Pro Street in frankston. He doesn't normally do this sort of thing but he knows his stuff real well (worked for ford for several years) and his partner has a fg holden on NOS which made it into street machine. I definately trust them with my car.

Anyways, enough blabbing on and such if you have any more questions fire away.

Cheers, Rhys (You will never look back once you do it)

Either ebay or wreckers should be able to sort you out, just check up on a few things , like how many ks the box has done, condition of the clutch etc, prob a good idea to replace the clutch with either a heavy duty or brand new one , so you dont have a problem down the track, strengthen the pedal box welds, as you dont want it to crackprobaly a good idea to strengthen the firewall as well while ya there, ( Issues on the E seires)

If you have cash to burn Mal Wood in QLD supply fully reco'd kits with absolutely everything you need for about $3.5k can't remember the exact figure. Not sure if that includes the ECU or not, but they also do a drive in drive out deal for a 400 extra or so.

I bought an Xr6 wreck with everthing in it for $2300... Took me 2 full days with a mate to swap engine and gear box out.... Was actually easier than i thought.

Best bet is to pick up series II onwards wreck from the auctions. That way you get all of the parts only problem is you won't know exactly what condition they are in. This is how i got all my parts then sold what i didn't need. A lot cheaper this way than 3.5k but not reco'ed at this point.

Cheers, Rhys

The beauty of it was that after selling off all the bits and pieces i didnt want/need, then it only cost me about $1500 (inculding half price labour from a mechanic mate)

This is something I've always wondered about too. Was considering doing a manual conversion on my AU but wasnt sure if the standard T5 and perhaps an upgraded clutch would handle the power I put thru it. 3.5k for a drive in drive out conversion sounds a bit steep regardless if its recoed or not. Hard part is finding a wrecked AU with a 5 speed in the first place for a good price to do the swap from.

You will need a ford bellhousing or a sandwhich plate. The input shaft may also be short/wrong spline.
