Default 480Km/h Veyron/SSC Aero buster

Quote:
1500kW twin-turbo engine. Circa-500km/h top speed. Half a million dollars. Ambitious Americans target world records with new supercar.

This is a car that could make the 431km/h Bugatti Veyron look like a slow-coach.

Just a day after the VW-owned French marque reclaimed the World's Fastest Production Car crown with the latest version of its $3.5m supercar, a US racing car company says it is targeting a top speed closer to 500km/h with its new Dagger GT roadster.

TranStar Racing has revealed details of its plans to hand-build an "uncompromised" street-legal roadster it claims will produce up to 1500kW of power and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 1.5 seconds.

The extremely ambitious company says it wants its Dagger GT to break records including world's fastest production car and quickest lap around Germany's Nurburgring, though it has yet to build even one example of the car.

TranStar plans to build five Daggers in 2011 and 10 per year beyond that, though production won't start until there are five confirmed buyers.

Few details are confirmed, though TranStar says the Dagger GT will be comprise a steel chassis and carbonfibre body and will be powered by a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged multi-fuel engine it says will produce 969kW using petrol or about 1491kW (2000hp) using race fuel.

Hypothetical performance figures include a top speed in excess of 300mph (483km/h) and quarter-mile run of less than 6.7 seconds. The company says it's confident the Dagger GT will match those numbers in the real world.

"The Dagger's nearest competitors will not be close in terms of performance or value," says a TranStar release. "This will not be a debatable issue once the performance runs are completed and independently timed in early 2011."

The two-seat Dagger GT will be priced about US$450,000 ($530,000), according to TranStar, which means the American supercar would offer significantly more bang for your buck than the $3.5m Veyron.

The Dagger GT, which will include a removable hardtop roof, has been designed by Phil Frank, the man behind another US supercar, the Saleen S7.

TranStar is inviting people to invest in the Dagger GT program, though they will need to have a net worth of US$2m ($2.35m) and bring US$200,000 ($235,000).
http://watoday.drive.com.au/motor-ne...707-1001t.html

So pipe dream, or a serious piece of engineering? We can see its only a computer concept. I just can't see how the can build this thing for less than 500k US$!!! Let alone the fact that they are still looking for investors..... HMMMM

However seeing this, & if they do it, it simply furthers the question of when (& maybe if) any manufacturer that can best 500km/h for a road legal production car. Because as Jeremy Clarkson once said about the veyron: 'Your right on the limits of whats physically & technically possible". Can anyone break 500? and is that where it will end? 500? maybe 600? eeek - 700? far out!The mind boggles at this notion.

Needless to say its a nice looking piece of kit. However, I suppose this can be filed under: "believe it when I see it".......

Love it! But alittle bit dreaming! A car that goes fast in a straight line is one thing but engineerig it to hand corners at high speeds is another! For that price you can't go wrong.

Sub-7 second quarters for a road legal ride!
Hypotheically, that thing is absolutely insane.. Extremely ambitious though. Im looking forward to the video of that thing attacking the Ring... I wonder who would have the balls to pilot it?

Does not look to have anywhere near the engineering that was put into the veyron.

I think Jeremy Clarkson was right when he said we'll never see another car like the Veyron.

As the above poster said, believe it when I see it.

That much power through rear wheel drive only - even in ~1000kW trim is going to be a beast. They will have 4 versions setup for different applications plus a second road going version with more goodies in it.

looks like 14 year old having a bs session with his mates. When you see the amount of work required for the veyron, then you truly appreciate what engineering a car means. Just because it has the power does not mean squat. And for it to do 500km/h, then run 6s over the 400m - sorry, but that is rubbish. A doorslammer may do it, but forget going around a corner. If it goes around a corner, it will not do sixes over the 400m. If it is stable at 500km/h, it will not go around a corner....
The veyron can do 407km/h, but it is not particularly quick around a race track due to different aero and its weight. The Enzo is quicker around a race track, but slower at top speed due to the downforce of the aero.

For years, they've confused "grip" and "handling".

Not too many I'd imagine - Probably black out before you get to 100 Klm/h.

0-100 in 1.5 secs. Unless its running full drag slicks and is setup for the strip no way in hell will it go anywhere near that. It will just wheelspin like crazy.

Its one thing to have the power to run to a theoretical 480 kph, but to have the aero to achieve it is a whole nother issue. I'll bet the thing hasn't even seen a wind tunnel.

Another dreamer.

500km/h could be achievable, but not with a sub 2 second 0-100 time or the fastest Nurburgring lap.

look at the engineering that went into the veyron, four radiators and stuff like that, this thing is just a omnser motor shoehorned into a slippery body...
noone makes tyres to handle that speen, michelin specifically made tyres for the veyron speed, and een then they dont lat long at that speed...
thsi thing is a "well im going to do this and it will be faster, i just havent proved it"

the ford rs200 did 0-100 in 2.1 secs did it not? so its slightly possible, although i doubt it, it only looks like 12 or 13 inch tyres on it, and only rwd? pfft lol
and transtar sounds like a truck lmao

Er... so what you're suggesting is that by putting one's foot down in the Bugatti Veyron you'd be out iin 12 seconds. 2.1mpg is 112 l/100km so you'd get ~12 mins of full bore, not 12 seconds. Bad maths is baaaaddd.

Furthermore, in the SAME article you linked it takes 16.7seconds to get to 300km/h, which must have been a guess, cause it'd run out of fuel before then, right?

Back to the topic at hand, I always find it amusing when wild claims about performance are made by companies without even a single model being produced.
