Well done Ford for backing the cars they build. If they keep this up come FG2 then they will sell well.

Christ, that was a bit left field. Are they finally starting to get serious?

EDIT: I bet this only applies to pre-April build stock that is sitting on the grass at Broadmeadows.

Sure its 5 years warranty and not just the standard 3 year warranty and a useless 2 year dealer warranty?

Has someone told Ford this. They are offering XR6's at $34990 drive away with a $2000 cash back for ABN holders. But this is only for pre April 2011 vehicles, with delivery pre end of financial year.

Currently the website only has the 5 year extended warranty for Ute type vehicles.

I got the email from Ford Australia. It is for pre-April builds. I read the email again and it says not available to the general public. Why?

Probably just trying to get enough buyers to buy the unused stock, rather than putting it out their to all the potential buyers via mass media. If they only want to move a few thousand vehicles with those deals, they dont want everyone to know, and end up with alot of dissappointed people when they realise it was a very limited offer.

Offers of cash backs etc, can be immediately quantified. 5 year warranties on the other hand, could really bite you in the *** in 4 years time.

If they were really serious maybe they should try and match Mitsubishi's warranty.

Warranty 10/5 Year

Australia's Best New Car Warranty

We wouldn't be offering a warranty like this if we didn't have faith in the reliability of every new Mitsubishi. Every vehicle comes with a 10-year or 160,000km (whichever comes first) Powertrain Warranty, a 5-year or 130,000km (whichever comes first) New Vehicle Warranty and a 5-year Perforation Corrosion Warranty.

10 year or 160,000km* Powertrain Warranty (non transferable) applies on the following components:

•Engine
•Turbo charger
•Water pump
•Transmission/transaxle (auto/manual)
•4WD transfer case
•Propeller shaft
•Drive shafts and axles
•Differential

5 year or 130,000km* Factory Warranty

•Applies to all new Mitsubishi vehicles.
•Fully transferable to new owners inside the warranty period.

5 year Perforation Corrosion Warranty

•Original sheet metal components of vehicle will be free from holes formed as a result of corrosion under conditions of normal use.
•Applies to all new Mitsubishi vehicles.
•Fully transferable to new owners inside the warranty period.

If you got the email (well i guess we all have now that we can print it out), then I am pretty sure you aint going to see an XR6 with 6 speed automatic, alloy wheels and a 5 year warranty for $34990 drive away, ever again. Especially if you can get them to throw in the $2000 cashback, they are offering on some other deals.

Whats worth more, $2000 cash back, or an extra 2 years warranty?

Depends if the ZF decides to kick the bucket within the 5 years or not?

Whats the good of 5 years / 100,000
Should be 5 year / 150,000
OR
5 year / unlimited like the little pieces of crap sold by hyundai
at least they have confidence in them to give a decant warranty

I am quite sure the Ford plant would need to change the Egg timers
they have set within them to extend the warranty

I recon they will go even lower, especially if buyers stay away this month....

As an aside it would be nice to see listed in that email some features other cars dont have...
  • Rear Wheel Drive
  • 2.3 Tonne Towing Capacity

I know no-one uses these things, but come on, marketing is about making people think they need/want it.

i could be wrong but one might say that there`s a little less chance of a car driven by the older folk or cardigan wearers being abused or getting a hiding, compared to a powerful big all purpose sedan driven by a more enthusiastic driving demographic, i could be wrong but i also think fwd is a little cheaper to maintain in the drive line having everything all mechanicals in one up the front and with less moving parts.
it all comes back to the mighty dollar.

About time ford lets just hope it becomes the norm. So Hyundai etc offer 5th and ford use to do 3yr... Can understand from a customers point of view that is a win for them and a loss for ford

They've been testing the waters lately with 5 year warranties for other cars on short-run "deal" type promotions, perhaps we will see 5 year warranties become an across the board type thing soon.
