Hi folks,
My daughter has a WS '09 LX manual. The tappet noise is way bad when cold and still noisy when hot. Is this normal? Are the tappets self adjusting? If not, are they easy to adjust? |

Hi Cespenar,
As far as I know the tappets are hydraulic and can't be adjusted like the old types. If they are hydraulic the way to adjust them is to put shims in, which involves a lot of mucking around and you really have to know what you are doing. I also have a WS and it also sounds like a diesel in the morning... I think the only way you are going to find out is (a) listen to another WS or two and compare, (b) ask a mechanic to check it out on the next service - but not to touch it without checking with you first. cheers, Paul |

What about trying a different brand of oil and try some other fuel.

Oil and fuel would be the cheapest and easiest start I reckon. Our WS is noisy sometimes in the cold, other times you cant tell its running....

Oil is Ford spec. More than one brand has been used.
Fuel? In Dubbo, I've been told that the road tankers take it from the same rail tankers. Maybe it is all the same here. Thanks anyway. |

My daily makes some ticking when cold but by adding some Lucas product it stopped , perhaps an additive might do it at the next oil change ? |
