My brother was walking through a bad neighbourhood at midnight ( yes not the best thing to do but still ) with a mate when some ****** hiding behind a bush with another thug jumped out and hit him in the head with a steel bar.
He went to hospital and they said he had a fractured jaw in 2 places, he now has bracers and rubberbands in his his mouth for 6 weeks. Can only eat through a straw. I live in tassie and it's getting worse. There is a big gang around here with a name i wont repeat. They beat people and steal for the hell of it. An elderly couple who reported an incedent to police involving them had their cat and dog nailed to their front door. Anyway, does anyone know if he is entiteld to some sort of compensation? Victims of crime for example. I have done a google search on it but im also wanting to know of anyone who has or knows of a person in a similer situation. Sorry about the spelling.... |

Sorry to hear about your brother & I hope he makes a full recovery. Its such a shame that our streets are turning out like this.
I'm pretty sure victims of crime will only pay if someone has been found guilty of the assault

Having had a broken jaw myself in the past I feel for your brother as they are one of the worst things you could break. It really sucks.
But are we turning into America here? Your brother has just got his jaw busted and instead of getting it sorted out and trying to work out what to do about the people who did it your checking to see if he can get compensation? |

My mate had his eyesocket shattered by some random **** when he was 15. They never found out who it was. He spent 6 weeks in hospital and has had to have multipkle operations to adjust the plates he now has in his face. He received victims of crime compensation. Hope your bro makes a good recovery.

Thanks guys, MAV50L about the ****** that did it, We don't know and im not sure if it's a good idea if we DID. We are 99% sure its the gang i mentioned. These people DO NOT GIVE A *&^% about anything. I would hate to think what would happen if they were charged and then retaliated. It wouldn't end well at all. We both have partners and children. We will not put them at risk.
Yes IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The judicial system is a joke. The penalty for those kinds of random, unprovoked attacks , if proven, should be a mandatory public flogging. That would put an immediate stop to it. I hope your brother recovers.

I actually have been in the same situation as your brother. Got punched at 16 by a thug at a shopping centre. Broken jaw in two places and 8 weeks recovery. It's pretty bad and do him a favour: don't give him too hard a time about not being able to eat solids. It hurts heaps not being able to eat! Here's a pro tip: make a big pot of bolognaise sauce, chop the mince really really small and cook it till it's almost just a liquid, and feed that to
him. He will get better sustenance than the "dietary supplement" stuff the hospital is likely to give him and he will have the closest thing to solids he can get. Also make a curry and cook the sauce down just like the bolognaise. He will love you for it. He can't get victim of crime unless his attacker is found and prosecuted. The bloke who hit me did so in front of a few hundred witnesses and he was on camera. So he was prosecuted and I got 10,500 for the attack. Problem I have now is ongoing dental issues. Two teeth are dying. When your bro is all healed up, go and see a specialist. Nerve damage is highly likely. I hope he heals up well and isn't in too much pain.

Sounds like it is time to round up the boys, head to the hood and go nail these bastards to there mummas front door..................... by their balls and let them hang there screaming their pansy little lungs out..
Why does society allow these creatures to live? One day a year open season. That's all it will take. Won't have a problem next year as all the vermin would be gone or hiding under their rocks. Oh wait! We don't have guns anymore to erradicate such scum. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to take their beating that they dish out to innocent people......just because they want to. |

I got punched riding my bicycle this morning lol
I was riding through Northbridge in Perth (the main night spot) at 6.30am on the way to a meet point, and some meathead ran out onto the road and took a swing at me. I swerved and he mis-hit me across my arm and ribs, but still WTf. I hope your brother makes a full recovery.

About 6 years ago on christmas eve I was walking home from the pub at night with a mate and a couple of girls when a group of blokes set on my mate who was about 50 metres behind me.. I ran down to intervein knowing I didn't stand a chance being out numbered, I got 2 good shots in before I copped a schooner glass above my eye and while on the ground numerous running kicks to the head. I ended being opened up to the bone along my left eyebrow, a shattered eyesocket and cracked cheek bone.. It wasn't a pretty sight at the christmas dinner table or for the next 2 months...

Victims of crime...... sure, you can claim, as long as your injuries are $7500 or above.
Myself in the wife went out for dinner at the end of last year. She kept egging me on to go and have a flutter on the pokies. I hate the things and resisted several times. Anyway, she convinced me and off we went with $10 in hand. I sat at a machine and she went off to get a drink. Less than a minute later my head was smashed into the screen with such force that my head split open and I didn't feel a thing. See, turns out I was sitting at 'his' machine. He was very drunk, and was also getting a drink. He saw me and ran 20m across the room and hit the back of my head palm open full force... he wasn't small either. My wife felt so bad.... kept saying how it was her fault as she push me into doing it. Soooo seems I could get $3600 for a minor scar on the face. Nope, got a letter saying I haven't reached the $7500 threshold. The lady I called was suggesting I change my claim to excessive scarring for $8100 or something. Bugger that, I'm not going to BS the system. Anyway, you need these links: Application: https://vs.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/VS_Comp.pdf PDF of what you can claim to what value: http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lawlin...6_Schedule.pdf Who can apply: http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/Lawlin...ionwhocanapply Info on Expenses: http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lawlin...actualexpenses Look into it ASAP. If you can claim then make sure you get up to or over $7500. Take heaps pics and keep all paperwork. See a doctor etc etc etc Edit.... 20 seconds of looking at that PDF shows that a fractured jaw is $7200.... $300 off. Ummm look at the list closely and see what else may apply to him. Good luck. Oh, you have 2 years to claim, and claims take 3-6 months to process. Never a dull moment ay..... |

Noticed all my links are for NSW... I'm certain there is a similar system for TAS? Thought something like that would have been the same nation wide.
Anyway, good luck with it once again. Sorry to hear of it happening. |

whilst ever we have an attitude that drugs are cool and ok (especially "cooked varieties") and getting mindless drunk in combination with taking these is also cool, then we'll keep having incidents like those mentioned within the thread.

i`ve said it before , we are now like a little America, i don`t know if the violent times are cyclical, but it seems that way, i mean it`s there all the time, but it seems to have era`s when it becomes bad for a period till the law slows it down or it just passes(or the bastards grow up), i remember copping a very good hiding from skin heads as a young bloke, and it seems this is a bad time yet again, we have the multicultural gangs roaming the streets as well as the usuals , one thing it taught me, be street wise , think twice about going into a bad area at certain times.
all the best to your bro Falconman007. |

I wouldn't say this is a "typical" American thing, these things mostly happen in the big **** cities like L.A, N.Y etc. Most places in America don't have these sorts of gangs...
But I am surprised at this happening in TAS, definitely shows that certain parts of Australia are becoming more and more like the bad parts of America. Sad thing is these dumb *** gangs are only powerful when they are in numbers and high on methamphetamine and other ****. No doubt the law needs to be changed and more harsh convictions are to be brought down on these low lifes, just like it is happening here in the U.K right now. New laws are being introduced to give any youth on the street found with a knife an immediate jail sentence. Wish your brother a speedy recovery mate. |

Yeh, the world is so more dangerous now than it ever was before. I remember in the 1970's when I'd jump on the internet and it would be all skittles and rainbows.
Hard luck about your brother, but we don't need everybody to pretend like this situation is unique to the modern era |

Thanks all you guys for the kind words and advice.
He told me there were 2, they were wearing hoodys and scream masks. waving a bar around carring on like heros. Had baggy pants and sounded quite young. He took a few bands off to open his mouth a tiny bit to suck in some weetbix! IGGYPOPPEN thanks for the tips Trust me i dont stir him at all. Yes tassie is not what people expect it to be. It's a hole unless your out of town a bit. To many drugs, drinking ect as there is not much else to do for some. |

set. So not the best idea! Also small morsels of food can get stuck in the gums and cause serious infection. He should be using mouth wash 3 times daily but sometimes it doesn't take the slightly bigger bits out. This is why he should refrain from taking those bands off and attempting to eat anything! It might seem harsh but I'd prefer the normal recovery to an extra two weeks with freshly tightened bands clenching my jaw shut! Breathing through a blocked nose with a clenched jaw is massively annoying.
