CONTROVERSIAL TV personality Jeremy Clarkson has again been accused of racism after a Top Gear Christmas special in India.
Viewers vented their frustration after the special saw Clarkson mocking the dress of Indian dignitaries, driving around slums in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet and making repeated jokes about the country’s trains, food, history and conditions. Clarkson boasted the specially modified toilet-car was “perfect for India because everyone who comes here gets the trots”, the Daily Mail reported. To see the inflammatory pictures from Top Gear’s Christmas special go to the Daily Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ia.html?ITO=so "Whats wrong with the BBC that they think casual racist stereotyping is acceptable on top gear?” Twitter user Owen Hathway wrote. This is not the first time Top Gear has been embroiled in a racism row with comments made during an earlier Mexican special resulting in an apology by the BBC to the UK’s Mexican ambassador. Co-presenter Richard Hammond made the insulting comment that a Mexican sports car reflected the “lazy, feckless and flatulent” national characteristics of its country of origin while James May described Mexican food as "sick with cheese on it". Clarkson directly insulted the ambassador, predicting that they would not get any complaints because "at the Mexican embassy, the ambassador is going to be sitting there with a remote control, snoring." The outraged ambassador - Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza - wrote to the BBC branding the comments “vulgar”, “inexcusable” and said they were “xenophobic” designed to “stir bigoted feelings against the Mexican people” resulting in a formal apology from the broadcaster. It’s been a hard year for Clarkson with the host receiving 21,000 complaints for his comment that striking public sector workers 'should be shot' while their families watched. I love Jeremy, he makes my day..what a boring world itwould be without him !!

I've watched the special. Geez if they are offended by this then we as a society really do need an upper cut. I love the Top Gear challenges as the boys always take the **** out of themselves and where they go. It is an old theme that is repeated so it should no longer shock people. The message is simple, Clarkson is an idiot that makes some people puke and other people laugh. If you know that there is a chance that he will offend then turn to another channel. These days there are plenty to select. Pretty simple really.

I'm sure there are BBC protocols saying they have to tippy toe around or avoid subjects that could cast ethnic minorities in a negative light. Prop em up on a fake pedestal... The way that shyte hole is heading (modern UK), I wouldn't be suprised if he gets put in the slammer for saying similar things in years to come whether it's true or not.
Of course there are no worres when he has a dig at the Germans or French, or even the Aussies (the very first Monaro/HSV Coupe review if anyone can remember, was a good laugh). Last edited by smoo; 31-12-2011 at 03:16 AM. |

He has had a joke about their trains, conditions and food all of which are true.
Yet there are millions of people living in squaller over there, yet they have the money to pay cricketers millions of dollars to play a few games of giggle cricket ( my analogy) each year. the Indians IMHO should a long hard look at themselves. |

The show is so popular he can walk the tightrope and not feel the fear of cancellation.
Maybe that's why the show has suck high ratings, people not afraid to offend, at least saying something controversial is better than watching the bland poo pushed out on Australian television... |

Watched the special, didn't really grab me all that much (the last part playing cricket with the locals was about the only time they were real and they only part I actually enjoyed). I think people are starting to lose sight of comedy - making fun of a stereotype is a comedy staple. We're all just getting too soft to be able to laugh at ourselves, pulling out the PC card or chanting racism. Toilet on the rear, most westerners to India *DO* get the trots at least once. I did. I don't recall him mocking the dress of dignitaries, from what I recall they were dressed mainly in suits. We're slowly being conditioned to become droids. Not allowed to do anything that could be perceived as a possible risk and not allowed to say anything that potentially could offend someone else. |

This could be another way to "build up" the India Special. All press is good press.
Maybe Clackson will get photo'd by the papazzi getting out of a landrover not wearing any nickers next time or leak a sexy tape.....hell I'd watch it.

Remember that Simpsons episode with the cancellation of itchy & scratchy, & Michelangelo's David, & in the end Marge finally figured out, that 1 person really can make a difference, but most of the time they probably shouldn't!! Wish more of the "do gooders" would figure that out & take that advice, then we all really would be better off & the world really would be a better place to live. |

I have just watched Season 1 and Season 2 of Top Gear and Clarkson's humour hasn't changed since then.

R.I.P Comedy. Obviously they have never heard the term "taking the urine". 23 people complaining out of probably a couple of million is very small. I'd like to say more but I won't.

If the India special highlighted anything, it is the sheer abomination that is known as the caste system. 1,299,000,000 people live in squalor so that the remaining 1 million or so can live the high life. Where's the outcry about that??? Last edited by charles_wif_xf; 31-12-2011 at 10:06 AM. |

How can making light of facts be racist?
Its not like they made it up deliberately to cause a stir. What a joke. |

It funny how through are modern education system we are educated to the point where we cannot point out the negatives for fear of either stereotyping, insulting, or racism, when all we are really doing is just pointing out a fact, even if its considered to be rude to do so.
All the same, the TG special was that bad... not the best Ive seen either...

When they can't handle the truth, play the race card. Having a go at the road death toll in India is hardly racist. Any attack was directed at their government, not at the people. So it's hardly surprising that an ambassador was offended, and not the general public. I guess the Indian government does not believe in democracy.
