I can't help but wonder why it was made a statutory write-off, based on what has been stated is wrong with the car... Repairable write-off perhaps, but statutory? Call me crazy, deluded or a complete moron, but this doesn't seem to add up. Unless I'm missing something here? . I'm more than happy to be set straight about this if I'm wrong, just personally wondering.
But yes, that WOULD be an awesome track car. |

It's a new NSW policy. In other states the car would already be in my driveway. But...the VIN is flagged Aus wide...cannot be put back on the road. there was one at Pickles Melbourne hail damaged last year...sold for 40k and itv was able to be registered after a VIV...so this guy is looking to make a few bucks for sure. |

You'd be surprised at how little damage needs to be done to a car to make it a statutory write off, as opposed to a plain old "write off", a visibly buggered wreck that's been driven into a tree or something.
A couple of years back when a big hailstorm went through Blackwater 20km away from here, car transporters ran hot and cold for a couple of weeks with write offs damaged by the massive hail. One fellow train driver had a twin cab Hilux, only six months old or so, and it had been under a carport. The damage from hail was restricted to a few dings on the rear right hand side of the body, and a broken rear drivers side door window from a ricochet off a wall, plus some smaller dings in the rear drivers side door. We said he was lucky, but a few days later we saw it go past on a transporter. He said the insurance assessor was making it a "statutory write off"...he didn't really care, as it was a lease car and they gave him a new one, but still... No wonder we pay so damn much for insurance... |

The person selling it hates a full stop or comma! Doesnt sound like a wealthy person to me. Hence I think how that was written suggest this AMG is dodgy with a capital D!!
ps: Love these cars mind you - awesome sound. pps: "Little water in cabin" - please.....ha ha |

You wouldn't touch a water damaged Merc with a barge pole, complexity, wide suite of high tech electrical gizmos and unbelieveable repair costs would be a minefield. Water in the wiring looms would be a nightmare to fix if you could even work out what the problem is in the first place. |
