I didn't think Ford still had a marketing department...let's hope this is a sign of more to come. They have some great local products that need to be put out there

Yeah, thats good to see the Ford in the paper! The only problem is though they are advertising the wrong car as there is nothing"thrilling" about an XR6 and people will probably be disappointed.
They should be running the same ads and specials on the turbos (I assume it isnt for 36K?), not enough people realise they are so much better for only a tiny bit more $$ and should sell far more than they do....... |

It could be a good move if Ford are switching Falcon to Territory headlamps in two years time... And I wonder if manufacturers will start gearing up for LEDs about that time as well.. Last edited by jpd80; 11-02-2012 at 02:14 PM. |

Oh, just read the fine print, XR6 special price applies to MANUAL transmission, I'd assume ZF is $1,000 more. |

There's no XR6T special at the moment, , there's no point unless Ford is going to match the SS at $42,990 drive away... [quote] Does this not suggest that they should be matching (or beating) the SS with the T? Why is there "no point"? Im not being smart mate, its a genuine question on why you think Ford should not try and compete on prices with SS, especially when Ford are struggling for sales. |

That would be a lot of money sitting there that they need to reclaim. so it would make sense for them to sharpen the pencil and get to it. Now imagine over at Ford, they only have a few XR6Ts with dealers and mostly build to orders, does Ford need to encourage volume or do they keep the price up, pick up some sales and expend less resources? I would love to see them get in there and match Holden, maybe they will but unless there is an urgent need to clear stock, it may not happen. Gives us some idea of the margins on high series cars, hey.... |

But your point is spot on, the masses only want a shopping trolley and family sedan, and the XR6 is a large car which looks identical to the performance models......so I guess they will get more customers that way. |

Ramming LPG down everyone's throat because you are a true believer will be as effective as those other true believers who turn up knocking at your door on the weekend and get the same reaction. |

Originally I was going to buy a XR6T as I still like driving fast but after driving a NA, I decided to go for the XR50 as it had enough poke, a much nicer interior and would stop me from wanting to modify my car. And I even got an auto. I'm wrapped everytime I get to drive the XR50. And so far nothing has beaten me in the traffic light GP I'm sure I will get beaten when I try a FPV or HSV, cars which I used to beat in the WRX. If you want nothing "thrilling", try driving a Fiesta!

Just because on paper they have more power and torque does not automatically make them quicker. XR8 always had more power and torque than XR6T so theoretically it would be faster but it has been shown that the real world does not always agree with theory much to the annoyance of some true believers.. |

Menace, you should be proud of your car mate, if you are a young bloke they are very fast compared to the "rank and file". When you drive a T with 2k of mods (tune etc) and near 300rwkw you will understand what I am saying about thrilling..... Last edited by MercuryT; 11-02-2012 at 05:57 PM. |

Flappist, Ford published pictures of a drag race between the two at their proving ground, the EcoLPI had about a car length if I recall correctly. Although they did use a slight incline, so perhaps the EcoLPI's superior torque had a hand to play in it.

And since when was "thrill" simply about speed? As a family car they are plenty quick, 6.5 seconds to 100 kays is no slouch for a big NA sedan. An XR6 will beat most new cars on the road when you think about it. Ford is right to say they are a thrill, it's not just about straight lines, an XR6 with the ZF is a very well sorted car. I know I would have a lot more fun through some corners in a NA 6 speed XR6 than a 4 speed turbo - because I've done it in both. Also Superfly is referring to the XR50 interior vs a regular XR6T. |

Ive had my BAT (with 2-3K mods) for over 5 years and wouldnt change for a NA FG XR6 in a million years. Id love an FG F6 though, the best FG perfomance car. Each to their own I guess....... |
