As the title suggests has anyone dealt with Saveontyres or any Sydneysiders around the Lidcombe area seen their shop?
The prices seem good, at least for the size I want, and free shipping!! http://www.saveontyres.com.au/ One World Rubber Co Pty Ltd ABN No: 61 155 049 488 9-13 Crawford Street Berala NSW

I haven't used them, I've looked at them and like you the prices seem quite good on my odd ball sizes, but I don't know if i have the front to walk in to the local tyre shop and say fit these up guys, or what extra fitting price loading would be applied and how the total price would compare once the fitting and balancing had been added in, as well as the inconvenience of the whole show, if I still had the fitting and balancing gear at home it would be a no brainier

I think last time I did this sort of thing .... it was about $12-15 per tyre for fitting balancing.

Like you I was also worried about rocking up to the local dealer and asking to fit them, but a friend who works for a new car dealer here and said they can do it.

If you pay for the fitting and balance, I should not see a problem. Give your local place a call and see if they will fit the tyres that you got from another place.

saveontyres = ozzytyres, or they just use the same website designer, and their FAQS say no pick ups so you can't visit their shop.

as people have said above, a 'strip and fit' at the local bob-jane was about $15 per tyre.
the boss at the bob-jane was shaking his head at me when he discovered i wanted 'achilles' brand tyres fitted to a VE SS said something about cheap and nasty...

I just bought 4x 235/35/19" Michelin Pilot Super Sport (one of the best reviewing summer sport tyres around) for the Megane from the tire rack in the US, and paid $1400 all up including shipping.
The same tyres here would cost in excess of $3500-$4000 depending on where you go. No brainer really. US dont get gouged for tyres like we do. |

I wanted to buy a fair few Continental tyres from the USA through tirerack but they only accept payment via bank deposit and the details they gave me didn't match up on our end when they tried to send the money.

I am going to buy a set of Coopers or something online. |

Checked out our forum sponsor "The Wheel Deal"? I've dealt with them before, real good customer service, I got a phone call within 5 minutes of placing my order.

The problem buying tyres on line is, there is NO WARRANTY on failures.
Another thing buying on line. When ever someone comes into my work to have there new tyres fitted they have got somewhere else, is they get charged heavily. Reason being...There isn't a great profit margin buying in house, therefore buying else where means less money going into the business, which in turn means it's harder to keep a business profitable. Not having a profitable business means more people out of work. Some might see it as a mongrel act, but why should hard working aussies be shunted out of a job?

Yep a manufacturers warranty that needs to go through the supplier of the tyre. When they're bought from a shop, you take it back there (or one of the chain) and a rep comes out and determines whether it's a warrantable claim or not. Buying online, does that supplier come to your house and determine whether it's a warrantable claim or not? I seriously doubt it. Or should I say, they don't through my experiences. However I might be wrong.

I could not give 2 s#its about warranty when I am paying a little over a quarter of the price for tyres that come standard on a (991) 911 Carrera S... If I have a problem with one and Aussie dealers won't want a bar of it the I'll buy a new one. Probably still be ahead.
You can go on to say what if the tyres blow up and take out a rim, a pedestrian, or a childcare centre in a small Asian village, but c'mon... Be serious. |

Update.
Bought the tyres on the 16th, confirmation emailed to me on the 17th and dispatched with tracking number. They arrived today and will cost $12ea for fitting. Free delivery in two days and half the regular Tyre price...they've won me.
