A mate of mine spends 70k on a beefy commie a year or so and gets the extra warrantee. That's close to the average salary.
Between 12 and 13 months later, the battery carks it after about 30 mins of illuminating a front of a house ( moving in ). I remember when they would glow for days! He rings holdens famous roadside assistance only to be told the service expired a short time ago and that the fat lady had sung. So now he has a poor impression of gmh. He thinks they are uncaring. Suffice to say lads that his next expensive muscle car will be one of ours. |

Jump start it and be done with it.... Battery isn't finished, just flat.
Head lights that stayed on for days??? Thats a first!

it's not Holden's fault that he drained the battery.. surely with a jump or trickle charge it'd be fine again once it goes for a good half hour run or so to charge it via the alternator..

I don't think 30 minutes of leaving the headlights on would flatten a battery dead flat, or kill it completely if the car is off, unless ignition is on as well.
And anyways if you're going to do that, leave the car running. When you start completely discharging your average normal car battery, you'll shorten its life quite quickly, they don't like being run flat and being charged up again, that is deep cycle battery territory. My Focus battery dropped a cell, was rooted and I didn't do anything like that, dodgy Motorcraft battery for you, another Focus owner had the same issue, it wouldn't hold any charge, at one stage I couldn't even roll start it as there was nothing keeping the ECU going. Then I couldn't jump start it because the old man's Mazda 323 didn't have enough juice to crank her over fast enough . Falcon saved the day. |

Don't you need some special sort of charger with the VE? One of my mates had an earlier VE which had endless electrical issues including multiple dead batteries but he was unable to charge it with a normal charger. He ended up getting rid of it and went back to a VZ.

Does your mate want them to change his tyres too because they wore out with driving?
Maybe Holden should be caring enough to fill his fuel tank every time it needs doing as well. |

If I have to use headlights to see at night, I just leave the engine running. Helps when it's not your car or fuel
Surly if your mate can afford a 70,000 car and a new house he can leave his car idling for 30 mins and spend about an extra dollar on fuel. Is extensive idling actually bad for you vehicle? |

You'd think someone who has the money to splash out $70,000 on a car would have some sort of common sense. |

But I've left my EL Falcon idling for 2-3 hours in the driveway with no issues in one hit, I've used about 60L of fuel just idling it away in the driveway since I've had it. The only issue I see is that the alternator output dropped to 11V with all the electrics on, but I think thats because the alternator is probably rooted as its covered in power steering oil, which craps out the brushes and slip rings. Had no overheating issues at all, same with my WS Fiesta and LV Focus, both idle for periods of around 30 minutes every morning. |

mind you it's not the first e series with a blown head gasket but it was the catalyst for it going there are many areas of an engine which can suffer from excessive idling anyway back OT, the thread is a little redundant.

Tell him to stay a Commodore driver. Heaven knows we have enough Ford drivers whingeing about nothing without having an ex Commodore driver doing the same.

I think we get the drift on where this one is heading .......
Gotta say though ...... to change brands because the battery went flat because the lights were left on ...... bit fickle?
