Default Best Diesel?

Being a new oiler owner I am trying to see what fuel returns the best economy/power and is the cleanest (low sulphur). Has anyone done some personal testing and noted any difference between brands? If so who comes up trumps?

I did the search before I posted this. The thread is quite old now and info may have changed. It seems like there is no clear cut "best" diesel from that thread but BP and Shell seem to be up there

Iv been using caltex vortex premium diesel, its around about the same price as standard diesel and easy to get.

I think BP premium diesel is slightly better but not very popular and generally dearer.

I used BP Ultimate Diesel in my revious Passat 125TDI Highline. On ething I did though was keep every reciept and always went the the same fuels station / bowser (call me ****) as I have heard plenty of horror stories with contaminated Diesel. By keeping a reciept you will have a case for a warranty claim against the Fuel provider.

Just changed from caltex to shell and I reckon the economy is a tad better. will have to have a go with the bp next up. I can get the discount vouchers for shell so if there is nothing much in it I will probably go for the shell

Is Premium diesel actually premium or just a name? I've been too scared to put it in my car.

I fill my work ute up weekly with Shell or Caltex Premium, I notice no difference in economy or how it runs.

Most Caltex Servo's have had only Vortex Diesel for 12-18 months now, I can't tell any difference.

Focus 2 litre 6 speed manual diesel. Caltex vortex and BP Ultimate (the bp hard to find in Gold Coast) 5.2 litres per 100kms, standard diesel 5.4litres per 100kms...this on mainly freeway running. I do 800kms a week mainly commute from GCoast to Brisbane to work.

There doesn't appear to be much in it from what I can gather. Not like the octane levels in petrol where there is a clear and distinct advantage in going for the premium fuel, however whether or not it is cost effective has been the topic of many a thread. What is clear is that bio, either petrol or diesel, doesn't seem up to the real deal.
