A friend of mine had a car transported from Interstate To Vic. When it arrived it had quite noticeable damage to the sill and door which was not on any of the doco from the seller .. And more importantly not on the documentation from the transport company when it was picked up.
As I understand it, it was shipped by rail rather than truck .. So I'm hoping a forklift wasn't used somewhere? Anyway the accessor from the transport company looked at it for a couple of minutes and declared it was sold like that and was not damaged in transport .. Despite having a piece of paper indicating no significant damage at pickup interstate. Anyone else been in this situation, and any suggestions on how to proceed with this? |

yup, ive had to lift a few cars of trucks with my forklift at work, very very easy to damage sills/exhaust etc.
id much rather do boats, they might be dearer, but boats on trailers are easy as compared to cars. |

The best way to avoid the confusion would be to do a visual over the car before it left stating condition and have it signed by both partys before it left. At least it would avoid the he said she said rubbish. Dep of fair trading could be a lenghty process I would imagine.

Putting complete holes that just happen to line up with the forklift tynes through the doors of a car is not uncommon with rail transport.
You are much better off using a reputable car carrier. All he can really do is make a pain of himself to the company and eventually they might give in. He should probably get another letter from the sender verifying that the damage wasn't there as well. |

It might be a long shot ,but can your mate get hold of any pics of the car prior to the transportation, even older ones? i see that as his only chance of getting this mob to look at it again.

Yeah sounds like its deny, deny, deny .. And only bother to look at it seriously if the claimant is persistent. I think he'll just keep sending details, etc .. Oh well ..

Id get under a properly maintained forklift and trust it much more than dodgy Chinese axle stands.

I had this problem and got nowhere, my advice now is if you use a car carrier dont rely soley on their insurance, make sure you have your own cover and then the insurance companies can fight it out. If you want to check out what happened to me google VIP car carriers, the story is directly under their listing
