Default Fitting two 12" subs neatly

Hey everyone

I had the idea of making up a fibreglass box to fit my two 12" subs in my au sedan, right up the back of the seats to maximise boot space. I have no time to do this atm but I really miss my big bass!

So, does anyone have a custom box for two 12"s for sale by any chance? Or how much would I be looking at for getting one made?

Cheers Nic

my mate built me a custom enclosure for my 2x Alpine type R's 12" in the back of my AU2 XR6 sedan, i have some pics of the install if u would like to see them. but i havent exactly got much boot space left but my subs do require a fair bit of box volume being ported.

Hi mate.

I have 2 x 12" Type R subs in my AU. I got my install done cheap buy a mate (mates rates rule : ). I got it done so that the back seats could be folded down and used and also have a lot of boot space left.

(image is of my old daily setup incase poo happens and i break down lol. I now have a custom box made that looks a bit neater.)

And as for sound quality, i used to have these subs in my old fairlane with a ported box aiming straight at the back seats and the sound quality didnt change. It also was just as loud.

Just an idea for you bud.

Can't help with 2 x 12" subbies but the link below shows my custom box for 1 x 12" sub.

My criteria was to have as much floor space as poss and also to be able to utilise the smaller portion of the folding seat.

2 x 12" subs would require around twice the width but I fear you'd lose the use of the folding seat.

Cost was around $70 ($20 for mdf, screws etc + $50 for upholsterer.

Hey guys thanks for the info, some v nice setups there crazy-au and ronwest.

I checked ebay and they're all show type, I'm more after something that fits up the front of the boot around those funny angles. Similar style to crazy-au's fairlane pic.

I've got the plans to make my own, but I don't really have enough time to get it done right now. Basically it is a vertical wall halfway (well a bit more) into the boot, and the enclosure fills the space between it and the seats. Just checking if anyone has anything remotely along these lines for sale? I know probably not but I thought worth a try!

Cheers

Already calculated the volume, ideally between 5 and 6 cubic feet, I know its big. But if something is available at around 4 cubic feet for the right price then that would do (for now at least!)

Cheers

mate i kinda have the set up u want....except one sub only.... u just make a box big enough to fit in the whole.cut thesub holes into the box... make a fake board to go over that.cut subs holes into this though but make sure that they are gonan line up and that its all flush around everywhere..mount the sub into the fake board and use long enough screws so that the subs goes threw the fake board and into the box..so the sub is accually holding the fake board up.then u would have to mount your amps else where.. heres a pic.

Hey thats a nice set up, so basically you've got a normal box behind there, with an aesthetic plate to cover it, held on by the sub itself, good idea.

I'm kinda inspired now, maybe I'll make the time to build my design! My plan is to have a piece of mdf across the back of the seats, holding the subs (firing into the cabin) and build the box back from there, following the boot contour (with glass of course!).

Thanks for the help guys, now instead of wasting money buying a box I'm once again motivated to begin mine!

Cheers!

I kinda wanted the subs facing into the car, as I didn't want them on display. But I guess having a seat right in front of them will absorb a bit of sound eh. I'll post up pics when I'm done, maybe a little while though!

Thanks again for the help

Cheers Nic

id advise pointing them towards the boot, loading the bass off ur boot will sound louder in the front and will be louder in theory

Just another idea- I've had three AU's now all with big stereo installs and found this to be the best for me (not for everyone but an idea nonetheless......)

Yeah I think the subs wouldn't be able to compress/decompress air as quickly if they had a seat right in front of them. It would make them squeeze air through and around the seats.

You can have the subs facing into the car. But unless you construct what is known as a "mini wall" it will sound not so good. Not to mention, not very loud. A mini wall is where you compleatly seal the boot of from the cabin, and mount the subs fireing into the cabin, with the box in the boot. If you DONT do this, you will get alot of cancelation happening.

I would suggest eather building a box, and face the subs back towards the tail lights. With the box inbetween the strut towers. If you do this, you MUST leave a path for the bass to enter the cabin. Ie, take out the parcel shealf speakers.
another option is, build a sub enclosure in the spare tire well. with the sub facing up to the boot lid. If you do this, i would reccomend applying some sound deadener to your boot lid

im looking to build a fibreglass boot install for my 2 15" subs
but sadly they CANT fit between the shelf and the raised portion so can never face forward hehe

so im thinking of putting them in the SIDES of the boot
or building a box back from the seats as most of the guys have

Thanks EB-92, thats some good advice there!

Think I'll go with a box up the front (filling all the shapes and curves), subs facing the back. I'll have the box stop a couple of inches under the parcel shelf to let sound waves in. I'll also cut a hole in the parcel shelf board where the 8 inch hole is.

Either that or one sub in each side behind the wheel wells. That may be easier, and it will also allow the seats to be folded.

One is a pioneer ts-w302f free air. The other is an "eoss" whatever the hell that is, no other markings, I think its also free air. I'm after about 2.5-3ft per sub, I like my bass big, fat and DEEP.

Sorry blackers10, didn't see your post till too late! I think the side option may be better. It will be much easier to glass.

hey mate Sorry about the long reply, if ya want big fat DEEP bass buy DD (digital designs) lol
yeah id say the side option would be alot easier, i just went a big 4.6cu ft enclosure in the boot cos im not fussy but i now have NO boot left haha.
A F'glass install will be costly however, and take some time to do
