NO WAY! Greig is a legend of Cricket and the game has been better off for him.
A sad day indeed. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. R.I.P Tony. I shall miss hearing your voice whilst watching the game. Col

That is a true shame. I had read that he was sick with cancer, but I wasn't expecting this. R.I.P. Tony Greig, you will be missed mate

I certainly didn't see this coming. RIP to the second voice of cricket. :(
http://www.news.com.au/national/tony...-1226545005855 CRICKETING legend Tony Greig has died after a suspected heart attack. Greig, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in October, was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital by ambulance from his Vaucluse home this morning between 10 and 11am. A St Vincent's hospital spokesman, David Faktor, said Greig arrived at hospital in a "critical'' condition and died of cardiac arrest. "The staff at the emergency department worked on Mr Greig to no avail and he passed away at a quarter to two this afternoon," he said. He added: "I understand his family were with him when he passed away." Distraught family members later gathered at the cricketer's eastern suburbs home. Greig's son Mark told The Sunday Telegraph his father's cancer had progressed to "stage four''. "He's in the best place and is getting the best possible care," Mark said earlier today. Friends of the former England captain, who has called Australia home since the 1970s, confirmed he had died this afternoon. It was only in October that Greig announced he was battling lung cancer. In November he underwent an operation and chemotherapy to fight the condition. Former Australian captain Bill Lawry said was yesterday devastated at the loss of one of his closest friends. “We are absolutely shattered that he is no longer with us,” Lawry said. “I have been fortunate to be his friend for 33 years. “It’s a sad moment for world cricket.” Australian coach Mickey Arthur was among the many media and sporting personalities to pay tribute to Greig on social media sites. |

Disliked him until the 2 part Packer series. I grew up during the World Series Cricket era and never knew he was such an integral part of the success which gave me a completely different perspective of him and a renewed respect for him.
RIP Tony. The game was much better for having you in it. |

I went to the same school as Tony. Queen's College, Queenstown, South Africa. He came and addressed us boys in 1974. I was thirteen and it seems like yesterday. He was a towering man and a true inspiration. He told us that our days at that school would set us up for life and that we had to be the best we could be. He was proud of that school. We where proud of him. A Queen's College boy who became Captain of England.

Will miss his key poking antics in the pitch. Enjoyed his commentary. He will be sadly missed in the cricket community.

A true legend. Grew up listening to his commentary and was an integral part of the Ch9 commentary team. |

Greig's long career as a commentator made his voice iconic. Channel 9's cricket coverage has lost one of its iconic voices. At least the rest is still there, although Benaud is almost retired. I actually liked Greig if it wasn't an Ashes test and it's a shame he's gone.

Who could forget that SP helmet he wore when batting helmets were just gaining popularity- As a cricketer, commentator & person he was "absolutely marvellous". I'll miss him- Thanks for the great memories Tony!
cheers, Maka
