I need new tyres are Kumho KU 31 a good buy OR what do you suggest??

Do a search but I personally really like the KU31's. I had them on my old WRX and my wife still has them on her WRX. But I believe they are about to be discontinued so there's some good deals at present. If you're in Brisbane, I can put you in touch with the dealer.

Otherwise the KU39's are supposed to be really good as well but they're a bit more expensive than the KU31's. I had planned to replace my 18" Dunlops with the KU31 but if they're no longer available when I need them, I will go the KU39's.

Ku31 are ok....bit noisy from what some of our customers have said.
Ku39 are not designed for high grip levels though. They are more luxury gt category

Yes ku31's are getting phased out and replaced by Ku39

i paid $170ea for my KU31's (245/40/18) from tempe tyres. i read a lot of the feedback concerning noise and it wasn't conclusive, so i took the chance.

i've done about 7000km on them so far and they are doing the job fine. they aren't noisy yet but the noise is generally related to a wearing/worn tyre.

i don't drive like a tool, so can't comment on how hard they grip if you want to push it in to corners but if you drive normal (like an adult) then they will tick all boxes for the money.

Personally, I would not recommend the KU31s to anyone. I went from Falken ZE912s on the 17" rims to the KU31s on 19" rims and the noise difference was massive. Even had the service guys comment as to how noisy the tyres were on my car when I got it serviced after the changeover.

Sure, the move from the 17s to 19s would have a small part to play in the noise difference, but not the majority of it. That was from the tyres.

Having said that, the KU31s have performed well all round; in the dry, in the wet, and the noise has not changed to any discernible degree now that they have worn a little. I just can't get past the noise they generate.

Edit: just read prydey's reply, and my experience is nothing like his. My KU31s were extremely noisy right from the very start. As I said, I would never go for them again from my experience on the noise front alone, but I have also heard quite a few people have similar experience to prydey.

i also went from the falken ze912's (in 18) to the ku31 and mine are quiet. probably not a lot different to a new falken, but compared to the worn falkens, they are quieter...

so is that just normal variations in tyre construction? or different cars reacting differently? not sure.

all the feedback i read was the same as this. for every 3 people that said they were noisy, there was 1 or 2 that said they were ok.

there is definitely a majority that favour the noisy argument. maybe i got lucky.

Or I just got unlucky

either way, I only put up with it because the 19" rubber is so expensive that I don't want to waste the money I have invested to date. The car's for sale at the moment, so that problem will either disappear when it goes or when the tyres are due for replacement, whichever comes first!

So the KU39 are not as grippy as the KU31's? I had KU31's on my old WRX and loved them. For the money, their wet and dry grip was awesome.

My wife's WRX is in need of new tyres and I'm tying to decide whether or not I should go the KU31's again or the KU39's. Think I might just go with the KU31's as I can get some for less than $90 a corner.

When my XR50 finally needs new tyres, I'll go with the KU39's if they are still around then.

That's correct....the ku31 is a higher performance tyre....but will be phased out
