Default Ford Ka global city car revealed

Quote:
Ford has taken the wraps off its new Ka Concept, a new city car that will eventually become the brand’s global budget runabout.

The new model was revealed in Brazil overnight - where the car was developed, as was the EcoSport compact SUV which arrives here next month - and a release from the company claims the new model has been designed to be “within reach of the emerging class of consumers in fast-growing markets around the world”.

Ford says the new model “could launch in 2014”, and that it would be critical for the brand in markets across South America and South Asia.

No specifics surrounding the car’s engine or underpinnings have been announced, but the company has let on that the car will boast “class-leading fuel economy”, will offer seating for five, and inside it will have a handy device docking station.

Ford Australia says the car is a concept only and that it has no plans to offer the new-generation Ka locally at this stage.

If it were to make it here, the Ka would slot in under the recently revamped Fiesta if it were to be offered locally, with prices of less than $15,000 that would allow it to take on the likes of the Volkswagen Up, Suzuki Alto, Mitsubishi Mirage, Kia Rio and Hyundai i20.

Ford Australia did offer a previous-generation Ka from 1999-2003, but it never sold in big numbers due to its three-door body style, relatively high price and lack of automatic transmission.

Ford Australia has indicated an interest in a car smaller than the Fiesta in the past - the Australian-engineered Figo runabout was believed to be a front-runner for some time, but it never made its way here.

Not a bad looking little car. Definitely not my cup of tea but still...it should do well.

Looks like the offspring of an Audi A1 and a Nissan Micra.

Looks all right. If Ford price it right it would sell well I think.

I was given one of the original ones by my dealer whilst my Falcon was getting some warranty work done.
I scoffed at it initially but after driving it for a couple of days I gained so much more respect for it. It lacked power for sure (and looks) but the handling on it was awesome, it was a brilliant steerer and a lot of fun.

Ford should build it imo, cheap run arounds are taking over, i too drove the original KA, it was a good quirky cheap run around, i liked the adjustable head lamp height from in the cabin and surprising roominess, all it really lacked was a bit more zip and some heavier gauge rims, the standard steel units where a bit prone to damage on our good pot holed roads.
Do what toyota and mazda do, do not try to hard to be trend setters in the technology race, build on their strengths, stick with standard proven cheap reliable old style gearbox/technology, make economical reliable white goods, none of this of this hi tech dual clutch racy bs that that may be a bit hit and miss, they can still load the car up with a good deal of kit, and if it's cheap enough, people will flock to it.

Yeah i was judging a book by its cover
I dont doubt it would drive well, its had some euro influence so id say it would handle well.

Should be a good seller, doesn't look as "gimmicky" as other small cars.
