Default Could the French teach us a lesson.

I have said many times that Australian's are a apathetic bunch and deserve all the crap laws that we get.

http://ukfrancebikers.com/2014/04/12...streets-again/

What are the chances of Aussies ever getting this far off their collective butts?

About zero I would wager....

Half the problem is the govt is targeting small groups of people at a time. Only that small group protests, so many people I speak to are ok with the laws that have been put in place here. "The govt will never use that against me" they say.

The French already taught us a lesson. They said "no" and refused to involve themselves in USA's oil hunt.

Lesson learned.

Is the proposed drop to 80 for all road users or just bikers?

'Road users'.. guess that means everyone.

Interesting response....

Good to see, they are also saying what most of us say on speed threads. That it's the lack of education on the road that's killing people. And they are just revenue raising, so I guess it's not just our country.

Here's something Australian's can be concerned about as a whole.

48km string of 4x4's jam up Newcastle last year due to a protest of the government closing 4x4 locations.
We can do, just most of the time people can't be bothered.

Did the same with the nuclear bomb testing in the Pacific in the 90's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_...ss_destruction

We said "no" and they didn't like. I was overseas at the time with my partner, traveling through Europe, and got unfair treatment in France when security saw that we were Aussies.

I assume you're not talking about Afghanistan, which the French supported.

No, I was referring to the Iraq War (invaded in 2003 by USA, UK, Denmark, Australia and Poland). The French were prepared to send 15,000 troops but ultimately declined to do so. From what I understand from extensive research, "lack of evidence of weapons of mass destruction" was the cause for the French refusal. Afghanistan was just a necessary stepping stone, once this became all too clear the French refused. Maybe research the topic if it interests you.

I won't get into the political side of things on the forum though (as per forum t&c and also because this isn't the topic matter of the thread).

Cheers.

Also, the french knew a lot of their companies were complciit in supplying the laboratory equipment and funding for a lot of Saddam's Weapons programme. Also need ot take into account:

1. the French supplied Mirage Fighter bombers and bomb casings used to drop gas on Kurds in Northern Iraq
2. France would lose its 22.5% conteol of Iraqi oil under the UN oil for Food programme.
3. 60 French countries made 1.5billion dollars of trade contratcs in 2001 in Iraq
4. Renault sold 75 million dollars of tractors in 2001 to Iraqi Government.
5. France was owed in excess of 6 billion dollars of arms trade payments by Iraq.
6. From 1981 to 2001, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), France was responsible for over 13 percent of Iraq's arms imports.

Glad to see another keen researcher, I was attempting to explain the situation in the most "basic" form possible to avoid hijacking this thread. You are correct that there were many contributing reasons behind the decision. If you wish to continue the conversation, feel free to PM me. I'm a bit of a history nerd (studied it formally) and am always happy to chat with anyone sharing the same interests as myself.

Cheers.
