Disqualification is no deterrent, fines mean nothing, has no respect and doesn't give a hoot about his actions and consequences ... Let me take a wild stab in the dark and predict that he will do this again! I doubt jail time would mean anything either, so what next?
http://www.couriermail.com.au/questn...-1227000116109 Traffic police from seven districts targeted one south east Queensland city in a massive road policing operation which saw 325 tickets issued in 14 hours. A man speeding through a 40kph school zone at 114kph was drink driving, driving while disqualified and driving a defective vehicle. The man also failed to stop for police conducting speed detection outside a Logan school on Wednesday as part of a massive road policing operation involving traffic officers from seven districts. |

Police need one of those mobile car crushers for idiots like this. Stop him, bring in the crusher and crush his car right then and there, then after he's finished complaining about it, cuff him and lock him up.
On second thoughts maybe not, I can see a lot of potential abuse of that power where cars get crushed without justification just because some over zealous cop starts to throw his weight around. It's a nice thought though.

Its quite likely he's an Alcoholic,
They get that drunk it doesn't matter, what the rules are or what the consequences are. I'm certainly not saying its an excuse, but that could be where the problem is. If he's not an Alcoholic, I would say there is no cure for him.

It's happened in Melbourne a few times kids have lost limbs and worse by drunkards racing through a school zone flying over a speed hump or hitting a gutter and end up in the schoolyard with a few kids scattered around. I say lock them up on the spot with no bail so they can't re-offend |

The law needs to go hard on people like this. Its the only way they learn and you set the example to the rest of the community.

No sympathy for withdrawal symptoms while locked up would be a good start, pointing and laughing at the struggle another. Public beatings would be great way to involve the community... fun for all. Way too friggen soft we are. |

The problem is imo is a social problem and a mental health issue, you only have to watch the news a bit and you see areas that breed people like this, broken family's, poverty, lack of education and opportunity all go towards this type of behavior, i would expect this to be an even bigger problem in the future.

Why not? If he's locked up he won't be able to hoon around. It'd also mean that confiscating his car would be completely unnecessary.

I was at the central coast last weekend.
Parked the mrs car in a council parking station. I noticed from my hotel that it looked like kids were skateboarding through the carpark. I thought id move it into the hotel, walked down and there is a ute parked next to my mrs car. I see a guy walk from the adjacent bowling club into the ute, starts it up and completely scrapes the whole of his car along the concrete pillar of the carpark. Parked right next to my mrs car. It seemed like he felt it hit the wall but he just gave it more throttle to get by, the car bouncing along the wall as it pulled out. He stops, seems like he could find the right gear, was revving it in neutral.. Gets out to inspect.. hes wobbling about, he stunk of alcohol and he says "scared the hell out of me", looks at the damage, then just gets in his ute and drives off. He was really drunk and just drove off. Do people still do that? whats wrong with society. That bloke could have hit an innocent person on his way home or collected one of the skateboarding kids flying about the car park. |

Here in Qld/Australia it will take weeks/months b4 he faces a judge and then there is every likelihood he will reoffend or get another slap on the wrist. What would happen to this guy in the USA or Japan or China? I suspect in the US & Japan he would be remanded pending a meeting with the judge and then going to jail, in China if he didn't have enough money to bribe himself out of his mess he'd likely be shot.

Making excuses for criminals.... Political correctness at work....
People don't have to act a certain way because of being in a crappy situation, they choose to act that way. Every day they get up and have a choice to make. Improve themselves or continue on their crappy way, those who make the wrong/easy choice and endanger others should be punished.

Just moved my car quick smart to a secure spot under hotel.
Should have taken his number plate and contacted police. It's a weird place terrigal. There were people in their 40s skateboarding in council carparks. Big groups of people, older people, kids, women.. |

i think they should have their liscences supended for allolng time with the ban stick - also a stint in a jail controlled rehab until dry for along time would help. The op guy deserves the book thrown at him.

Skateboarding is for all age groups, I started last year (aged 27) ands it's great fun and good exercise. Best part is when your older you know the laws and can tell people to sod off when they try to send you on your way.

****** me off there is SOOOO much of a focus on "hoon" behaviour, you do a little squeak of the tires and its like dozens of people nearby will be instantly killed.. you car gets taken from you, possibly crushed..
BUT.. we have idiots like this guy, often repeatedly breaking road rules in a serious and dangerous manner, repeatedly caught drink driving, repeatedly driving unlicensed , but there is no law or even a push to have these clowns vehicles impounded or crushed.!? IMO, repeat cases of drink driving and unrego, unlicensed SHOULD have the car confiscated. same provisions as the hoon legislation. I don't care if the cars your mums, boss, friend etc, it would stop people lending these idiots their cars because they would know they risk losing it if they are caught. All this focus on HOONS, should be somewhat re-focussed on repeat offenders, drink and dangerous drivers

In Minnesota he'd be arrested, cuffed and taken straight to jail. He'd then have to hire a lawyer to try and get out and it could cost up to $10k in fees. |

That being said, you will find there are a lot of screwed up people out there due to circumstance and the system, but perhaps this is something that has to be learned or lived through to be understood, some people end up twats because they have been conditioned from young life to be that way, how many times have we heard on this very forum the words, "some people should not breed" due bad parenting, violence, poverty, ignorance, booze, drugs etc and some of these individuals just don't know how to function properly in society and never will. |
