Hi Everyone.
I've owned my Escort for Five years now and since taking her off the road she has been stripped and sitting in the shed for over Four years now. I think it's time to start on her but I dont know how to begin. Help, I live on the Northside of Brisbane and would like some contacts for Parts and people who I can talk too. Regards Ian |

Thanks for you reply, i live at Burpengary so it would be great to catch up and show you my car. I'll have to make room in my shed first and clear around the car. I have a lot of parts as i bought a Mark 2 and stripped it down for the 2Lt motor and running gear.

Not green , it will be Orange one day. Not much rust at all and fairly straight as well. Just some under the heater box and spare wheel well, with the drives side A pillar the worst that i can see untill the paint get stripped off.

The pillars are available new as exterior skins. the frame behind is usually OK if just a bit pitted.
Removing the front guards is a bit of a trial but depending on how they are fixed on you might be lucky. Get yourself a long spot weld drill of about 8mm wire wheel in grinder the paint away from the seams across the top and drill out the welds all bar one at this stage, then climb underneath and address the front seam spot welds which may be easier to cut away and replace with new metal due to their angle. the guard mat have a few spots along the rear edge against the pillar so invest in some time to remove the doors. a 8mm punch chisel and a die grinder is useful here. Some have had good luck with the pin removal tools some haven't. Finally grind away the lower strip weld at the base of the rear lower 1/4, then finish off witht he last top weld. However if yours has been replaced after an accident at some stage like one of mine its probably easier to cut it away. So decide to cut either the guard or the guard support. If the guard is a good one cut the support and replace later like this JP |

What Models is your 2 door? if its not a "Sport" and has the square headlights I would start by getting a round headlight grill and front Quarter bumpers.
some like the RS2000 look But I Prefer the square grill with a set of classic Hella Rally spot lights What Engine do you plan?

The demise of Smcka will hinder a few restos for a while bur hopefully someone will fill the gap...even thought of importing parts myself but my other business is doing pretty well and it more of a sure bet....Escorts are running out fast and customers are limited.
The 75 model is the one to have as it has all the mk 2 suspension as well as the large strut tops to fit capri struts...highly recommended mod as it drops the front no end. After 15 years of pulling apart Escorts, this year ive decided to learn how to weld and put them back together again. Im picking up my own project today, so pretty excited. |
