Which falcons in the sub $7500 bracket should I be looking for to park behind the shed for future collectability?
Any advice appreciated

Overall, it’s a tough call but our vote goes to the TE50 – the charismatic exhaust note being the clincher. Potential buyers should bear in mind that the current car’s Windsor engine will be ditched in favour of an altogether more modern 5.4-litre V8 once the Barra Falcon makes its debut in October, 2002. So you will either have on your hands an obsolete machine or a collector’s item – depending on how you choose to look at it.

T-series are nice cars but over-priced slugs when compared with what came after. No classic value IMO.

I believe if you are going to take a Model from a range that it should represent the best available for that range. No disrespect to The XR8, But what an icon the Turbo is. Obviusly The F6 & GT will be the pick of the bunch.

Limited build numbers and stroker built factory engine will definitely make it a classic. Unfortunately 7500.00 wont get you one.

Yeah but the qualifications for this fight are 1. Under $7500 and 2. Future Classic.

So no GT or F6.

Re T6 vs. XR8 - you have to take the personal preference out of it. So XR8 wins because 8s will always be more desirable than 6s.

Anything with a v8 in it. That config will be gone worldwide long before anything with a 6 in it. I don't think the xr6t will be a future classic. It'll be appreciated but not classic.

All Australian inline 6 with a turbo hanging off the side will definitely be classed as a rarity in 25-30yrs time.

Maaaaaaaaaaaate. Reckon a BA XR8 is going to be a classic but a T Series not?

I just sold my T2 and I know I am going to look back one day and go bugger should of just sucked it up and left it in the garage. BA XR8 is a nice enough car but has no aura to the brand..its not even really an equivalent to say on older GS etc.


T series generally isnt <7.5k though

They'll all be rare in 25-30 years from now. Don't get me wrong, love the T6 but it misses out in this fight because I don't remember one circulating at Bathurst.

True but once the boomer stop buying cars Bathurst "cars" are dead, since the 90's that link has slowly eroded.

I'm a huge xr6 fan, but I don't think the BA XR6T will be a rarity, more so a cult car... Unless the things got super low kays and top of the range. It will have the exact same history as the VL TURBO which can be bought for under 7500 in mint condition. I've already started my collection, it's purely on the cars I love and not for anyone else. So far I have an original EB SXR6 with 112,000km on the odo picked up for 4g in Canberra absolute bargain, I have my 2002 AU XR6 ST in blueprint, this ones knocking on the 200,000km mark but I love this thing - blueprint on an AU is the best thing I've ever seen. The AU needs abit of work but I've purchased brand new steering wheels and knobs when she's ready to be finished. Now I just need my victory gold XR6 sprint ��

You need money to collect cars, SUB 7500.... Tickford xr6/8's, maybe you could find a XR8 220 but expect it to be in rough condition

Just about any BA BF FG or commo equivalent ute with hard lid. The XR8 or 6T ute will be worth some coin when people realise they can have an older 2 door sedan with proper motor, large boot and handling dynamics or a new diesel truck that looks and drives like a truck should.

Only problem about Tick ford cars is they will only be a small market, they may be worth money but will be less collectors compared to FPV.

If I asked most of my non car friends, whats a FPV they could answer me. I ask them what a Tick ford is they would have no idea.

E49 is more valuable than the E55 so not always the V8.

Whatever is parked behind the shed, won't be all that collectable after some years. Its criminal storing future collectible cars out in the open, even under a tarp.

Must be in the shed with a sealed (concrete) floor and preferably sisalation foil lined roof.

I've been thinking about this one. Whilst I do believe XR6 Turbos will be in a similar position to where the VL Turbo is now in regards to its fan base, I don't believe they will be worth as much from a collectivity point of view.

The VL Turbo is an oddity when you look at the whole history of the Commodore. The only model that ever offered a factory turbo option, never repeated again.

The XR6 Turbo has now run over 4 consecutive models. That will create a bigger fan base, but being less special and in greater numbers will result in lower resales unfortunately.

I know its not in the spirit of the question but I wouldn't recommend buying a car as an investment. Plenty of examples where people would have been better off keeping their money in a bank account earning interest.

As a motor dealer I attend the auctions every week and I can tell you I don't see many Falcon anything's. I haven't seen EB/D/F/L/AU V8 in more than 12 months. what I can say is commodores wont be a classic for a very long time as there is SS's, Clubsports, HSV everywhere and we either pay bugger all or don't want them.
