Default Essex v6

Looking for advice on engine rebuild for my Capri
Have a tired standard capri engine with a lumpy cam. Not sure what. D PORT I think.
Goes great but starting to play up and leak.

Also have another motor that seems to be out of a Z car. With oval ports.

Looking to get the bottom end looked out and the upping the valve size in heads and porting.
Will run lumpy cam.
Got good new Weber 38 carb for on top.

Question is which motor and or heads should I start with.
Any other advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Stew

I wonder how close the heads off lets say a 93 SC essex V6 are to the earlier ones like you have. They are a nice alloy head and could be a good upgrade.
Or you could just go the whole hog and put one of the latter essex V6's in, 3.8ltr with fuel injection and if you get one of the SC 3.8's its supercharged as well.

Think that might be the Canadian 3.8 you talking about. Mine is a little English 3.0. Unfortunately 2 different motors. Would love that super charged choice.

Burton Power website in the UK has a number of tuning guides. the 3.0 is the Essex right?

If its a choice between a standard oval port and a standard d port then the d port is much better.
But if the engine is to receive extensive modification then both engines would be fine except that the d port engine has thicker cylinder walls which will accept +060 and more and still have strong non porous walls.
Also be careful of the z car engine, lots of them were only two and a half litres.
