Hi,
Looking at travelling from nsw to Victoria and back again to pick up a car. Are the borders still open???? Only information I can find was published on 24.3.2020 and stated borders are open... it’s a bit old now... Are they still open??? |

But reading the cross border issues site it says Victoria has not imposed closures or restrictions on our state’s borders.
Which town do you want to cross at? |

I read the VicPol info carefully, there’s no explicitly relevant information. Google shows no traffic blockages at the border either.
Surely if you are at risk of forfeiture or unexpected storage fees, you would breeze through any inquiries. |

As far as I understand it, NSW ACT and Vic borders have not been closed.
WA NT SA QLD & Tas borders have been closed. That means, for instance... I can drive from Sadelaide into Vic or NSW no problemo.. but I can't get back into SA without self isolating. I know it doesn't make much sense to some... but if a State (or Territory) hasn't closed it's borders and a neighbouring State has... The Police in the closed State can only stop you from coming in... they have no durisdiction to stop you leaving (unless you've committed a crime whilst visiting, of course ) There may be rules in NSW & Vic around travelling about for no good reason etc though... so you might just want to check you're not falling foul of anything like that !?? D

Cant find anything about closure from the Stage 3 restrictions on the vic gov website.
Is it essential travel? If not then it would be a risk if you got caught... |

Victoria & NSW borders are open, both state governments did not think there was any need to shut down crossing the border.

Simply put, no.. you are not allowed to according to VIC stage 3 restrictions. Driving a car to NSW because you just purchased it would fall foul of the 'essential travel only' legislation.
If you want to take a punt and risk a hefty fine, then that's up to you. Heck, VIC Police have fined L platers for driving with a parent during stage 3 restrictions. Would've thought that would be fine under 'educational purposes' rule, which you are allowed to travel for. |

Here's one example:
https://www.3aw.com.au/teenage-learn...d-19-lockdown/ With the reduced of traffic on the roads, Vic Police have to find other ways to raise lost revenue due to less traffic infringements being issued now. |

The latest news is that the Vic Police are going to review the fine, implying that she might be let off if she was close to home.
NSW Police say it’s okay for learners to drive. https://www.smh.com.au/national/l-pl...06-p54hlf.html

Borders aren't closed but they fine anyone for non essential travel over there don't they?
Over here borders are closed and checkpoints are established turning back traffic on major travel points too. A bit like the 'containing the city' from regional areas like they did after WW1. Non essential city and suburban activity hasn't been clamped down and stopped with fines like over there. They just don't want people traveling out of the city. Strange differences hey? |

If you're an essential worker you may get away with it. You need a car if you have to work.
Interesting how you can't drive around alone in your car which is a very isolated place, yet you can jam 30 kids into a classroom for 6 hours then let them all go home to 30 separate families and the government thinks that's safe. |
