Hi guys,
After reading the Anxiety n Depression posts on here and that was really a big help for the guys that did suffer from Anxiety and Depression and it got me thinking. A few months ago i went to the Doctor with my wife and she was the one that was sick. I was sitting in the Doctors office and she turned to me and said "how long is it since you have had a blood test"? It turned out it was about 10 years ago. If we took as much care about our body's as we do our cars we would live till were 120 years old. I am pretty fit for 61 years old walk a lot, don't smoke gave up drinking in 2006, weigh only 60kilos and don't have sugar in my diet. I had the blood test and found out that my Cholesterol was up not too bad it was 5.4. so she has put me on tablets to get it down to 3.0. High Cholesterol has no sympton's at all and if it stays high you run the risk of a Heart attack or a Stroke. I've changed my diet a little and eat a lot more Vegs and grains and less Hot Chips which i love or use to. So guys go and have a simple Blood test and make sure all is ok. |

Certainly agree with the checkups.I book myself in for a full service every 12-15 months.Check blood pressure ,heart rate, lung function etc.4-5 years ago the Doc reckoned my Cholesterol was a bit high so prescribed some pills.I really hate taking tablets,so I binned the tablets and researched a bit and found that by changing my diet a little bit things got better.Simple stuff, porridge with honey instead of sugary cereals and cut most of the sugar out.Got to nearly 72 now and don’t take any medication at all!so something must be working

There's good cholesterol and bad cholesterol.
High cholesterol doesn't necessarily mean arterial plaque and the associated high blood pressure. My wife had highish cholesterol (lots of coconut milk etc.) but okay blood pressure and the doctor put her on meds to lower blood pressure (because high pressure can damage kidneys). Side-effects turned her into a monster. So she doesn't take the meds anymore. Pharmaceutical companies own many medical practices and doctors get incentives to prescribe. By all means look after your health and get checkups but doctors aren't gods. |

Don't forget your bowel screen tests either, even if you're not elderly. Yeah it's awkward but it's for your own good. Pre-cancerous polyps are easy-ish to treat but lots of people unfortunately don't know they're there until the cancer has spread to another organ and given them more obvious symptoms which convinces them to go to the doctor. Don't ignore any changes that you notice.
and a self-examination probably wouldn't go astray either. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/...lf-examination |
