Default Gout... Anyone get it ?

Hello just wondering if any members suffer from Gout, ive been getting it bad for the last couple of months in my right ankle... some days i cant walk ! Doctors gave me Allosig to try & flush The Ulic acid out but not with much luck so far, when my ankle flares up i take Prednisolone 25mg 3 a day for 3 days & my ankle comes good for a couple of weeks then it returns, i eat healthy and my wife knows what spices not to put in our foods to trigger it off, so if any-one knows of any thing else that may help feel free to comment, I just took a Prednisolone tablet now due to the pain so hopefully around 5am ill be able to get some sleep !

Hi, yes I have gout, very painful especially driving from one side of Melb to the other on cruise control. I use Allosig 300 mg tab-allopurinol One tablet per day and works fine. No pain for the last 10-12 years. (and I don't drink or smoke) Script only. I got it from my mothers gravox (go figure) trust that helps.
Regards Col.

Hello, grout is a mongrel of a pain to treat, comes under the umbrella term of arthritis, if they offer you a drug called colchicine run in the opposite direction as fast as you can!

Was told CBD oil is being tested and good results, and eat lots of cherries!

Cheers Billy

Hey man - I have been through a few bouts of gout - first when I was about 38/39 a few years ago.

I couldn't figure it out at the time - tried all sorts of things.

Did a heap of research into it and there is some strong studies into foods that are high in purines - not just spicy foods etc.

My misses is veg so we obviously eat alot of veg dishes - alot of which included plenty of things like spinach, mushrooms, beans etc - turns out they are some of the foods with highest purine contents - i knocked the spinach and mushrooms on the head and it all came right.

I still eat it now occasionally - just not every night or every other night.

There are studies around that also suggest a relationship between injuries and stress, i was pretty stressed at the time as well and had had injuries in the location of the gout.

I was getting it in the ball of my foot under my big toe - there are some bones in there all connected by soft tissue tendons etc that i have broken a couple times through playing basketball - i guess it's a weak part of body and first to feel it - you ever injured that ankle?

The feet are the first place to feel gout due to it being coldest part of body with less blood flow etc

Thanks for the input Guys... i will see my Doctor to get the 300 mg Allosig as they gave me 100mg tablets but ive been taking 2 a day instead of 1 like i was told, 2 days off work now due to it, yes Gout is very painful, its a 12 out of 10 ranting in the pain stakes for me some times ! I have never injured my ankles... but in my Younger days i was a mad runner, running from Chippendale in the City to Waverly to see family, playing sports & footy.

I've had it for year in toes, ankles, hands and one elbow. Watch what you eat. Stay away from the Vegemite, Bunning's sausages, shellfish and roo meat amongst other things. I have found that staying away from certain foods and staying hydrated works better than the meds. Keep a diary of what you eat and check what you had before it flared up and you'll likely work out what foods and drinks you should avoid.

A mate of mine used to suffer from it a fair bit. Hes in his 40s and still plays baseball. So meds work at the time, however, yeah diet changes drastically reduced re occurance for him. So he cut out tomato due to some reason i was not listening to, and other things that again i wasnt listening to. Something about enzymes or something.
But from my understanding, its like a lot of things where a change in, i dunno the correct term, but maybe diet, can proove advantageous.

Suffered with gout a few times (too many!) since I was mid 20s. First time I thought I had broken my foot somehow, was dragging it behind me just to walk around and driving the hour back home that day was ...interesting.

Progout to ease the attack, Allopurinal every day to stop it reocurring.
DO NOT take these medications at the same time. During one of my first times with gout I was never told to stop the daily allopurinal when I started to take the Progout. Instead of easing the gout this immense pain increased and worked its way up my leg into my knee, I've never had it so bad and the doctor was shocked his workmate in the other room had not informed me what to do.

Been gout free for nearly a decade now, touch wood, its bloody painful.
How painful? A bed sheet touching my foot would be painful. Lifting my foot off the ground was near impossible without bracing for the pain to follow....gravity was hurting me hah!

How can it be so painful? Google Uric Acid Crystals and you start understanding why you are in so much damn pain.

Edit - diet was changed, seems I needed to reduce how much seafood I was eating and I saw a pattern where munching out on beer nuts would start the feeling. Don't eat beernuts anymore and that still annoys me.

I shouldn't - but lolz at the pain thing!!

people think you're mad when you tell them about the bed sheet thing - I'm sure they're thinking what ev's, he's full of it sort of deal - misses thought typical man drama queening it up hypochondriac - had a few nasty injuries with bball but the ol gout would be up there running for top spot!!

Couple times couldn't get shoes/boots on had to flip flop it to work - embarrassing as, especially when having to do construction site visits!!

Besides the gout I also had fun with kidney stones.
My doc said to me something like "Well done, you have now had 2 of what we in the medical game consider to be the 3 most painful experiences."
Oh yeah? Whats the other one?

Reckon I should be good there

Yes; but they used to blame regular port consumption.

While we're talking medical, I still have residual pain in my rib cage from shingles back in March.
It is highly recommended people over 50 get a vaccine shot, bit like a tetanus shot.
It will stop or heavily reduce the effects.
Medicos reckon 1 in 3 adult Australians will get it at some time in their life.
It's not fun, and I had a mild dose.

Shingles is said to be one of the most painful things to experience!
That's the doctors saying that, my Mum had it back in the UK, she was a regular church goer or " God Botherer " as I called her, and I am sure she used to cuss under her breath, lol, she always denied it too

Good for you, I was an outpatient at Rachel Forster Arthritis Hospital in Redfern, Sydney, its closed now, I started there aged 32 in 1985, I had rheumatoid Arthritis, from my work as a boilermaker/welder, work and movement helped a lot, so always kept active.

Someone there told me about cherries, so I used to buy em when I could, I never saw cherry juice!
