As long as people don't start dropping letters when they are writing out words, like the Americans do - for example, color instead of colour...

Sorry, but that sh!ts me up the wall for some strange reason.

The amount of semi illiterate children that scrape through the school system is appauling. Parents need to be more aware and start to educate their children at home by reading books to them, and generally make learning fun.

I have helped in kindergarten classes in the past and it's damn hard to get around 30 young children in a constructive way.

but some of these threads with the 'sms' type of spelling is pathetic. :

I hate that too. Who do they think they are to change a language that isn't even theirs? Following the way England speaks English = correct. Its their language after all. I especially hate the Yanks who say "I speak American."

That's because your copy of word was loaded as typical, and typical = american in the tiny world of Mr Gates.

And even if you get your right those shared documents will keep trying to Americanize you.

Region settings and correct defaults are a must.

I remember in primary school (way back when dinosaurs still roamed that earth), I had written a sentence and had put the word colour in it but had spelt it 'color'. When the teacher corrected it she said that it could be spelt that way. So all through my schooling life, including going to a exclusive private girls school and University a couple of times I was never once picked up on the spelling of colour (or color as I had always spelt it).

It wasn't until I met The Maddestman and he set my spell checker to Australian/English and color kept coming up incorrectly (which would irk me no end) that The Maddestman pointed out that I had been spelling it incorrectly all these years.

I guess on the bright side, I now know why I never had a problem with HTML. :

Do you want to tell my teenage son that grunting is not a proper form of communication, nor is it socially acceptable? :P

I started an almost identical thread on another forum regarding SMS typing in forums. Its amazing how defensive people get when you comment on their literary skills. I’m no English whiz, but pity people when you listen to them and they sound like they congealed in the gutter.

So will I... I assume you meant zorst not zort?

Arsked is only slightly better than arksed.

I am also an annoyance to most people as if they pronounce something wrong I will point it out.

Like my daughter's OC teacher (this is a class in NSW public schools, for gifted kids - yes I have to brag!). Tomorrow night when I see her for parent-teacher night, I desperately want to point out that Antarctica has two C's and they are both pronounced. And what's even worse are the Americans who say the An-Artic. WHY?!?!?!

The other thing is the letter H. When people say "haitch" my skin crawls like someone has run their fingers down a chalkboard! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! IT'S "AITCH" YOU FREAKS!

I could go on... and, like XB Fairmont, I will :evil_laug

Also

Arks instead of Ask, that really ****es me off

also some people say Nyuse instead of use as in : Can I nyuse your pen?? Grrrrr

At work people will generally always ask for 3 "Bourbon and Cokes" when this is not the correct plural for bourbon and coke. It is meant to be can I have three "Bourbons and Coke"

I couldn't help but overhear someone talking about "jinking" recently. It took me a while to realise he mean drinking. My generation isn't afraid to take shortcuts, I guess.

If you get confused though, just ask for "A Bourbon and Coke, and two more while you're at it."

I hate people who can't pronounce "th" properly. My idiot workmate is like this. He says, "See vat mean Evo? Vat's my mates car, it's got va biggest turbo bro!" That ****es me off to no end. He is the absolute worst person to talk to, as I'm extremely anal about things being pronounced wrong and he is one very, very not smart person.

He was reading the calibration sticker on our antenna power meter and said "Vis power meter hasn't been carburetted for over a year!" He consistantly pronounces distributor "discriminer," I have no idea where that came from. Arg I hate talking to him, and he's one of those guys who never stops talking. And his breath smells like the southern end of a north bound mule.
