Had some kids come to the door earlier this evening, trick or treating. I think the missus told them we didn't live in the USA, and they left empty-handed. She didn't like the skateboards they 'parked' besides the Falcon.

Is that from the same thing? I really have no idea what I'm talking about but I think I've heard someone say the two before?

few years back when i did we decided to go to the servo and see if we could try our luck seeing as no-one beleved in it, and now i understand y, candy cost money :S

nywho went in, and the dude behind the register obviously knew we were trick or treaters, so we started to talk to him about our luck and decided ok and gave us more than just a choclate, there was 3 of us, he gave us, 2 chupachups, 3 choclate bars, packet of chips and a one of anything (our choice), we were stunned to beleve it

basicly wheneva (if ever) you do go trick or treating just go to servos, preferdly ones you know and ppl that appear chatty and friendly

No, actually there are those of us participate in the scene on a regular basis, dressed up or not.

It's only the wanna be goths (usually high school kids) that decide to go trick or treating and worship Marilyn Manson.

Well, that is one bizarre movie. At least now I know what was with Dave's various avatars (until his current Madonna one, which I have a feeling has something to do with another thread he started before).

j4m35 you're just gh3y... just coz your halloween/regular saturday night costume is GIMP-esque!

Well, I flew into my driveway tonite and high-beamed six startled kiddies... Would've been a little tragic if they were in the middle of the driveway, instead of 3m away... "trick or treat!" bump bump

I actually got some mini mars bars for the kiddies if they showed up - but then had to work late - instead of a 9pm finish - finished at 1:30am. That's 15.5 hours from 2 jobs today. Got today off as do many Victorians to recover - and the mars bars won't go to waste!

Agree 100%. 20 years ago nobody spoke about Halloween in this country. Shops didn't sell Halloween crap either. This is just another example of American culture slowly engulfing and suffocating all other cultures.

What will be the next American event which will be forced upon us? Thanks giving?

No thanks.

Pffft I dunno, just found it funny at the time. The americans on my msn list don't however.

Also, "The origins of Halloween date back over 2000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in), when it was celebrated by Celts in Scotland, Wales and Ireland." There's a bit more on it. Google will give you plenty of information.

Halloween isn't an American tradition. It's a Celtic (Scottish) tradition that was adopted and commercialized (bastardized?) by Americans. Costumes were worn to ward away evil spirits, and food was left at doorstops so that if a hungry spirit came past, they could take the food and leave the Celtics alone.

Why did this cr@p come to Australia? Dont we get enough American crap in this country. If this country starts celebrating Thanksgiving I'm leaving.

Sorry to bring this up again. But I remembered a story.
Halloween about 8 years ago, I was riding home from school (year 4/5) and I was quite dehydrated and got heat stroke. This happened down a short, but steep hill. Woke up at about 8pm with a massive headache and a bloody swollen knee. Apparently the bike flipped, and I was picked up by one of the mothers and taken to the office where my parents picked me up. After I got up I went and watched the simpsons Halloween The End.
