Default Towbar for AU3

I am looking for a Towbar for my AU3 and rang Courtney & Patterson Ford melbourneFor a quote The guy I spoke to said a heavy duty Tow Bar , up to 2200kg, all up for $585
HE Said that Ford didn’t sell a Transmission cooler as it said it wasn’t required for heavy duty towing
Transmission has a safety feature that when overheating it locks in 3rd gear

Does this sound realistic and a reasonable price.

Not sure about the transmission overheating, but I dont even have a towbar and just fitted a transmission cooler because the fluid was badly burnt in it.

Id suggest fitting a cooler for sure if your doing any heavy towing, aftermarket kits arent too expensive.

Cheers, Phil

$585 sounds decent for the 2300kg heavy duty tow kit ... should be a square hitch ... if towing that capacity ... you will need a brake controller as well fitted ... pricing depends on brand and what a place charges to fit ... but the towbar place can give you a price as well.

aftermarket PWR transmission cooler kits are cheap and VERY effective ... I have one like Phildee has .... and I do heavy load carrying and towing ... and it works a treat.

The 3rd gear lock is limp home mode ...when it does this the auto transmission is really in a bad why ... and not safe when towing if it does go into limp home mode either.

If towing reguly, or heavy loads every now and then, fit a tranie cooler. If it's just a box trailer to the tip on the weekend, don't worry about it.

I have seen places fit 2300Kg hitch bars for cheaper, but they didn't have a workshop (hence, backyardie advertising in the Yellow Pages).

I put a 1600kg on mine, towed a 1600kg car, and relised that going up hill, it probably weighs more, and I could just feel on my left leg how much I needed a tranie cooler.

Plus, if you get a cooler fitted, your half way to getting a Stallie fitted! :
