Pre-Tibbe key/lock availability?

I need help with finding a key copy for my EA because I didn't have a spare. Yesterday, my ignition won't turn and the barrel was locked (old) I tried using WD-40 to lubricate the internals, didn't work. After a few attempts to turn ignition with key, the key snapped in half and the remaining half of the key is stuck in the barrel.

I need a new key replacement (no spare) and the ID number (keycard #) for the key is 'F018' (which is the code on top of the key)

I wouldn't want to pay for two complete new locks for both of my doors, I was wondering if you or your club members had a key with the code 'F018', if they do, wouldn't they mind copying the key for me and posting it to Brisbane? I will pay for the key copy, postage and handling and $20 for the bother of going to get it copied.

Many mechanics tell me that the Keycard Numbers for F018 is no longer available because it is outdated so that is why I asked for your help.

I will eventually have to have a different key for the new ignition barrel.

If the ignition lock is that worn, then i'm guessing the car has done a few kms, and the door locks would be equally as worn.

Personally i'd replace them, but if that's not an option, you'll probably find almost any old EA key will work. I'd just go to the wreckers, ask to borrow the key collection and try a few ;)

yea, any just about any Ford key will turn it over if you can get the half stub out... Failing that take a door lock to the locksmith and they will cut you one based on your too halves

You guys seem fairly convinced that "any old key will work"
Out of curiosity, I tried 3 different keys in the door, boot & ignition of my EA and none of them worked.

I tried my ED (tibbe) key in my sisters EB on saturday and confirmed that you can lock the doors with another key but not open them.

i snapped a key in my mums car once, called a moibile lock smith, he came out cut 2 new keys and charged about $50.

i seccond going to the wreckers and getting a new set of locks and keys from a wreck...

i had a worn tibbie lock key which would start our friends ea....

fo18 is the profile of the keyblank... which is absolutely useless...

if you get the key out of the ignition a locksmith can cut you a new one..

if you can find a key number in your user/service manual, any decent locksmith can cut one...

if none of the above work, the drivers side door lock needs to come out and you have to cross your fingers a key number is on it..

so esentially you need to find a key number..

if worse comes to worse, you may have to get alocksmith to come out and remove the broken key...

Yeah, you can take the key-lock barrel to any locksmith and they will code a key to suit it.

You could purchase a new ignition barrel (from wrecker or OEM) and then take that and your old door locks to the locksmith and he will code them all to use the same key.

Would be cheaper than buying a whole set.

Does look good Brent, if it was a Tibbe lock set I'd be interested for myself. I will more than likely go the secondhand route though, still have to ask Sunny about that.
