The XR6 will smash the VS. The only VS V8 that will be beating an ED XR6 will be from the HSV camp.

the sooner you get over your mate's car the happier you will be. im sick of trying to beat all my mates in their turbo import things. my car is faster than most slop on the road but there will always be someone faster so i get over it. and yeh if you wanna know what will beat what just race it! there are so many factors that win/lose you a race.

If we were talking about a VS V6, its for certain the answer would be obvious.

Your car should beat him no worries but their is of course other factors such as the condition the cars are in & the all important nut behind the wheel.
Get out to WSID & you'll even have it written on a piece of paper how much you kicked his by so you can pull it out when ever you want to shut him up. Let me know when your going out & I'll try & make it out to whoop you both hehe |

Depends if its a 185 HSV Enhanced SS or a stock 165 Kw one, if its the 185 like my old man had it will beat you, if its the 165 then it may still beat you even if it does look stock... Only way to tell is as above.

On a VS Ute V6. My friend has one and the biggest thing i have noticed is the get up off the mark it has, I hired a VS Sedan V6 it was flat as a tack off the mark.
But in the VS 5LT take into account it is a Ute much lighter. What gain the ED gets on it will be real-led in once it hits it's power band about 3500rpm in 1st. I'd give the ED 1st gear. Then the 5LT will go on with it. Be close to 100.

In your case been a Manual I predict that he may even beat you untill about 60-70kmh but then goodnight. Those old Autos like his dont spin freely like the new ones and your manual will be getting more power to the wheels and leaving him behind. |

The 5 speed would make it harder. But with new tranny and tail shaft??? Close because the VP is so light. Even if i had a 5 speed it wouldn't make to much of a difference back when these VN-VP's had 5 speeds they were only .01 .02 faster then the auto VN-VP's. VN's and VP's are still faster then all V6 Commodores until SV6. My car at guess is about 8-9 sec to 0-100.
But i know not to take fords after EA lightly with 5 speeds, My brothers old EF Fairmont was fast but when he fitted it with 5 speed and XR LSD it was really fast.

My stock EF is pretty good against the VS V8 models. VS utes are also light as hell in the rear end so takeoff is a bit of an art. It's gonna be close but I think you could do us proud.

I was up the rear of one going on the freeway a VQII V8, He got sideways going onto the entry almost sideswiped me wasn't to impressed with that, when he finally slowed i pulled from behind him next to him to give him a mouthful, He looked shocked i was there
I got some VY V6 badges to make sure i never have the same problem my brother did. He was accused of having a V8 because he gave a WRX a hiding. Admittedly the WRX was stopped at the lights and he gunned it at the lights still doing 25kp/h But the WRX never passed him to speed limiter. And then it was really over, They drive to a car wash and this guy comes up in his car yelling you got V8 you got V8 that has never impressed him, So he ask him to come over and see his stock 6. Yeah right he takes off yelling you got V8 you got V8. From the back seat it sounding like a V8, But it was very fast he was able to get the rear out going into 2nd gear. I haven't been in a car that does that.

I'd love to make it faster but am scared if i start to fiddle with it with such high km's i might kill it.
But there is something fast about 5 speeds in I6's. they are alot faster then the Auto's.

I have to guess my km's now when i got it June last year it was 293,000. i got a new dash cluster with RPM gauge it had 246,000 now it's over 253,000. It pretty much dropped @ 300,000 about 2.5 hours out of Melbourne of all things:(. I had to limp it back home with 2 gears. So to make sure that never happens again i got road side assistance

I hate to say it but the best car i ever owned was a 91 VP S 5sp.
The car was used as a demo car for the Holden dealer in Crystal Brook for the whole time of the VP run and had first reg in 93. The dealer had fitted the SS kit to it and lowered it but that was it and i got it with 163K on the clock in 02. I put a 2.5" cat back on it and took it to Bill Towler where it ran 125rwkw. He said his VS only had 95rwkw and that mine was quick for a V6. I used to tow my boat with it and drop the clutch in every gear and never had a problem. But i'd still put my money on the Falcon.....just coz the only place i'd back a holden was over a cliff : |
