Is your car worth keeping ???

With so many advancements being made now with every new model, do most of you guys see yourselves keeping your current ride for the next 10+ years or do you see yourselves selling up to the next "disposable" classic ?????

I've had my ESP now for 15 years and plan on keeping it for the next 15 and beyond hopefully.........What do you guys plan on doing and why ??????

Tough question. I was thinking of paying out my lease on the XR8 and keeping it for good. I love it. But recently I've started thinking of trading it for a Porsche.

My classics I will never sell. XB GT, XT Ute, soon XW, and yes I am very jealous and want an XE ESP...

I believe that when you find the car that is truly right for you then you'll never sell it for quids. My lane is the best car i've ever owned and it'll be with me till the day it dies. Have had two brand new fords in the last 5 years but they never even come close to "feeling right" the way the lane does. Upgrading all the time is just a big watse of hard earned!!!!!

My plan is to upgrade to a BF Turbo or similiar in the next few years and keep it for 10 + years, as i fell in love with the BA shape when it first came out, I seriously dont think ford could ever improve it that much and have heard the next model is a let down..

Quality is my biggest concern however!

Ive had my XD for nearly 16 years, and won't get rid of it, unless i get a real nice XD/XE ESP to replace it.

I will never sell my XY as it is a classic and will always mean more to me... cars seem to be disposable these days like you say although there are exceptions.

Makes me wonder what my kids will consider a 'classic'.

I don't think Ford made many BA XT sedans with 5.4 litre V8s, 5 speed, factory 17" wheels & tyres, sports suspension etc. I will ask the lease comany what they want for this car when the lease expires as I would like to keep it.

The Viva stayed in the family for 40 years. Now gone due to it reaching the point where series $$$$ are needed to keep it running nice and the family outgrowing it. Wonder how long the Territory will be around for?

Get a friend who bought an Avalon (yeah, I know) to replace his Cressida which has topped the 500,000 km mark. But he's still kept the Cressida...

Mate an ESP aint no "run of the mill car" lol - of course you'd drive that around for 30 years!!!

I have an E-Series. It's definately worth keeping, as they're not worth anything now, nor have they been worth anything for several years, especially the earlier ones :P

Besides, they're a good all-rounder:

* Good performance
* Good economy (there is NO way I'd have 4.11s or a V8 with a 1:1 gearbox ratio, or non-efi unless on LPG)
* Easy to mod
* Takes a beating
* Cheap parts
* Plastic, not Classic (tis good not to fear the tinworm)
* There are a few Hero Models scattered through the range to add appeal
* No-body but us E-Series Clubbers like 'em so there's exclusivity for us, but I won't go as far as using the word "elitism"

ShowStoPPa, you've wanted an XF since you were a kid? Thats awesome! Not taking the or anything but I think the world is your oyster when it comes to picking from all the unwanted XFs out there.

The AU will go. Definately. The sooner the better I say. Your standard AU is one of the most dull pasion-less cars OZ Ford has ever made.

The XB on the other hand I might keep. I'd only ever sell it to replace it with something better of the same kind...like a Coupe or something. I've started thinking that my quest to buy a ZG will not replace the XB.

I think my VL will last for about another 5-10 years, as its in really good condition for how old it is and how many Ks its done.

I'll probably upgrade to a E-Series Falcon or maybe a V8 VL Calais, stuff a Turbo, because 98% of them are thrashed.

My SV8 has just cracked 100,000km, so basically it's worthless to sell but it still drives OK and hasn't caused me any problems (recently), so I'll keep it until it just gets to be too much trouble. Same with my AU V8 ute. With fuel prices and changes in technology, I don't think its worth changing cars for the next few years. Wait and see what happens ...
However "play" cars are different. I will *TRY* to never sell my '69 Javelin and my newly aquired '74 Javelin ... but I said that about my 70 Fury 'vert, '68 Impala SS, '65 Phoenix, etc, etc .. all gone now.

I plan on keeping my eb untill it dies. In two weeks it gets a gas conversion and has only just recently passed the 130,000km mark. The car still has a lot of life and will look after it to make it last. It is also comfortable and has has all the creature comforts i want.

If this one also sticks it out, I will be buying in the next couple of years either a falcon gt, mustang or a 57 chevy bel air.

mine i'd like to say will stay with me forever and a day.... but i'm sure it will be eventually offloaded for something else.... or to pay off my mortgage when people start flashing top dollars for old gt's.
it will kill me but reallity will eventually get the better of me.

I can't see me parting with my EL XR8 any time soon, and if it ever becomes regarded as desireable or a classic is of no concern to me. I really like the thing. Besides, I'm fortunate enough to own it outright.

strange, Falcon Freak... you should already know your residual amount.


our GT still has another two and a half years to go on the lease, so when the time comes i'll check what FPV have on offer then and maybe trade up. the ESP may still be in the shed, buuuuut those supercharged 2003/4 mustang cobras are beginning to come down in price and the Aussie $ is increasing, so who knows.
an FPV Pursuit could well be my next car.
