my only question is how would it be scored? do you just tip the winner of the round?

Perhaps this:
Each participant selects a top three finishers, in order, for each round overall (not individual heat races). Points are awarded for each correct top three, with bonus points if placings match. For instance: My picks - Ambrose, Lowndes, Skaife Results - Skaife, Seton, Ingall I get points for skaife only, but no bonus points because i picked him in third. If however: Results - Ambrose, Lowndes, Skaife then I get maximum points for all drivers.
