Thumbs up Jabba's ute, Vernier Gears are the go.

Well my ute has been in the Herrod QLD shop getting a set of Herrod XR8 Cams, a set of Vernier, and Billet oil pump gears fitted. They put her all back together this afternoon so we decided to take her for a test drive and see how she was going....Now we have not had her on the Dyno yet nor do we have it tuned in with the new Cams and Vernier Gears... So there is more to come, Power wise.... So back to the test drive...... Nathan (Mr Herrod QLD) drove first... Buy the end of the street I was speechless. From a passengers perspective this ute had it all going on---except for traction (lack of it, Even with 295 Yoko's V103's).... Nathan drove for a few minutes then pulled over to the curb to let me drive... Boy oh boy, has this got some mumbo now... First gear is practically a waste of time and a waste of rear wheel rubber, the motor spins up so fast it is like it is free revving and my tyre stood no chance to be able to hang onto the road... Second is not much better still spinning the pair of $700 295/30/19 rubber (Rob Herrod can you do me a deal on tyres please)..... Once into 3rd and the car caught up to the wheel speed it just kept going like a rocket. The torque that it is producing is very impressive, It is infact going much harder then what I was expecting. From the bumometer the motor feels like it comes into the power range from 2000rpm and lasts to 6250rpm(rev cut) When rolling of at the lights and you squeeze you foot down about 2/3's of the excellerator it starts wheel spinning at 2500rpm.

One thing I want to point out is Nathan also has a XR8 with very similar mod to his car as mine, except he does not have Vernier Gears, YET (yes he has the same Cams). Now the difference between his and my car is massive, thanks to the location that the Cams a set up to which is made possible by the Vernier Gears..

At this point she will be getting retuned on Friday, if not Monday...As soon as I have the results and Dyno sheet I will post them.....

Any of you wandering what to do next to your BOSS XR/FPV. My advice is get it into Herrod and have a set of Vernier Gear put on and re-tune... The difference is incredible.....

Lastly, I want to apologize if my post is a bit incoherent and all over the place... It is just that I am so bloody excited and I am finding it hard to put it into words.........

Matt

Good stuff Jabba, sounds like you've got the bull by the horns now! Looking forward to seeing this ute at Duttons mate. :sm_headba These boss engines seem to have so much untapped power within them, the great thing is changing cams in these engines is not a major job.

Sounds like you have yourself a great weapon for the Dutton rally now Matt, I don't like it when you talk about mods for our cars as I start thinking maybe if I did this or maybe I should do this to my own ute :

Default Jabba's Results

Jabba has asked me to update you all on his result's as he has blown up his modem. I stress the word modem not motor. :

The Dyno results before Mod's was 237 RWKW with 425 n.m. torque with edit.

The Dyno results with Mod's. Cam's, Gears and Tune are 251 RWKW and a massive increase of 155 n.m. taking it to a total of 580 n.m. torque.

As he was chasing mainly Newton Metre's I would say he has achieved his Objective. :the_finge

Thanks for the help Jeff... Dial up now, how painfully slow this is now. Well it only took 1-1/2 hours to up load 1 dyno sheet... This one is with cams, Vernier gears and partly tuned... I thought my O2 sensors were stuffed, but when tested they came up fine and we found that I had blowen out 3 gaskets around the Cats.. So she is going in again this week to get finished of... I don't think there is alot more left in it just more with tweeking the finer pionts of the tune. I think if I get another 5rwks and a bit more torque I be lucky.... Just for the record the red line is a Bluepower tune... IMO, Pretty good for a email tune.

Herrod XR8 Cams, Vernier gears, Tuned

Well done Jabba, a V8 with plenty of low down torque.
Might be able keep up with us turbos off the mark.
If you can get all that power to the ground....

Nice results Jabba! Can't wait to see a custom tune (not mail tune) on it! Will she be ready for Dutton QLD?

Before

after

here's a break down between the before and after.

2500rpm : 100rwkw @ 380rwnm >>>>> 100rwkw @ 495rwnm
3000..... : 120....... @ 380....... >>>>> 132....... @ 520
4000..... : 165....... @ 397....... >>>>> 190....... @ 560
5000..... : 221....... @ 425....... >>>>> 243....... @ 580
5500..... : 237....... @ 403....... >>>>> 250....... @ 540

I think with more fine tuning we can see my motor getting over 500nm from 2500rpm and max out at 600nm...

We will finish the tune on Friday, but I don't expect to much more than what I all ready have. As it is, I have to much torque for the Motokhana events. All I have left to do to the ute is fit the fire extinguisher's and finish the Camber Castor kit and were racing....

The before chart is the pre-cams chart, and has a Bluepower tune...

The red line in the after the Cams and Vernier gear were installed and using a Bluepower tune.

Blue line.... New custom tune....

Err Jabba, I thought you wanted to keep our secret in the cupboard and off the forums? And is it true that you "ill only ever have a V8" own a 6 pot coon?

If your wife kicks you out from spending too much money, you might have to consider homosexualality anyway!

Any further updates Jabba? I'm trying to see if I can get to the Mt Cotton events on Sunday for Dutton, but am unsure as I fly back in from Darwin on Saturday night...

Looking forward to seeing the Ute around the hillclimb, will be a handful to say the least!

The bottom end fell out of Jabba's ute so he isn't 100% sure if he can start the rally
