What posses a 16yr old to steal a car? This same guy looses control, crashes into my 84yo aunty and kills her. Do these people have that little respect for others, and themselves?? I cannot understand why this happens, it is a waste of two lives (assuming that he will even be punished).
It makes me so angry – it's needless. |

I can't imagine what you are going through at the moment- that is appauling and just shouldn't happen.
I can't fathom what that ****er was thinking and as he has survived about the only slight comfort is that he will live with it for the rest of his life. Why don't people learn from things until its too late? Nothing can make this go away but I hope that you are coping as best as can be expected. What an ********. Jamie

Hello Dan,
I am very sorry to read of your loss, even more so seeing your Aunty was the age she was because not many people get to that age these days, and to loose a family member makes it so much harder. I will tell you my story "hoping" it will releive some of your sorrow, knowing that if your Aunty had died of natural courses it would make it a little easier for you to comprehend. In 1996 I lost my son aged 31, three months later my brother, nine months later my sister, six months later my brother and another two months later another brother, all under fourty four years of age. I am only telling you this in the hope that it may give you some comfort knowing that a lot of people have had such a hughe loss of life in their families, but I am not trying to take anything away from your loss, far from it I am just trying to give you comfort because if you have never had a loss in your family it is devistating and no one can imagine the sorrow that you are feeling, especially by the way your Aunty was taken from your family. If you read this I hope you get a little comfort by reading my history, but I am not trying to take anything away from your loss, far from it. AMEN TO YOUR AUNTY. |

Very sorry to hear about your Aunty mate. It is terrible how so many people die as a result of something so unnecessary and irresponsible. And its not just the people who die, but also the families who are devastated.
I agree with someone above, I dont think the law punishes these people enough - quite clearly, because it keeps happening! I think that THIS sort of thing is one of the BIG problems on our roads, but funnily enough, not addressed by speed cameras, which target largely law abiding, responsible citizens. I also think parents are responsible for their children doing that kind of thing. I know that each individual can make their own decisions and know right from wrong, but that same individual's capacity to do that effectively is highly influenced by their upbringing and values they grew up with. I have a 12 year old daughter who will be driving in 4 years, and also two sons (8 years and another who is a baby) and I am going to try my best to make sure they grow up with the right values in life and with respect for others, so that they wont make such terrible decisions later in life. I guess its hard, but someone has to take responsibility for kids doing stuff like that, and for the extreme consequences and at the moment it seems that no one does. I just wish we would learn, as a society, so this sort of thing could be prevented. At least the people who have died as a result of this sort of thing may not have died in vain. Jac

16 he will probably do some time in a juvenile detention centre where they have every game and gadget available are fed 3 good meals a day. Mostly better than what they are getting at home assuming they live at home and not on the streets. The child criminals have it pretty good until they hit 17 and then start to learn what it is all about. But all too late then.

Deepest condolences to you Dan and your entire family....
My heart also goes out to the family of that 16 year old... (the parents aren't always to blame people). In my books... If you are old enough to commit the crime, you are certainly old enough to do the time....

Not much saddens me more than hearing of unfortunate avoidable incidents such as this. Nothing angers me more than seeing these same offenders at Court presented as children, victims of circumstance and then getting no more than 5 years for taking life.
