Thrifty Truck rental have stuffed me up

Well I had a truck booked for Sandown V8's. 20 mates coming and everything setup to go. Then Thrifty call me this morning to say Sorry but the truck has been written off in NSW and we do not have a replace for you. So we are truck less. So now goes the hunt to get a replacement truck from a different rental company for the same price.

Glad to see Thrifty take care of the customers. never use them again.

sorry for thrifty stuffing you up but it is kind of out of there control, how are they to know some fool would write one of their trucks off.

Yes but you would think they would have a spare or a deal with another company to arrange a another truck. If I canceled they would of charged me $100. Seeing they canceled they should give me $100. I say it very bad customer service. Or even cover the cost difference. It is now costing me a extra $80 for a different company

That's a very good point about the $100 cancelling fee - I would also want some sort of "Freebie" due to the stuff up.

Sure it was not their fault that the truck was in an accident but I guarantee that they are claiming "loss of use" whilst they don't have a truck either from the insurance company or from the person who wrote the truck off.

yes I really thought a company like Thrifty would have a bit better provision for accidents. seeing all they do is rent out vechiles. there was not word of any discount or any type of assistance.

Not your problem they lost a truck, you are the customer and you signed a deal. Thrifty need to sort something out or I'd be going them like a pit bull.

I dont know about you folks in the big smoke but out here in the bush most Car/Truck rental companies are a franchise, if they lost a truck they would have to replace it.

Whip of a quick email to Thrifty's Head Office and tell them how impressed (not!) you are with their service.

Ok, i have sent the following email to Thrifty head office. Lets see if i get a reply.

To whom it may concern,
I would like to let you know of my disappointment of the service I have received by your company, I had a 3 Ton Taut liner truck booked for Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I was contacted by Mel from your Clayton office this morning to tell me that the truck I had booked was involved in a accident in NSW and will not be available. Mel said she was going to find me a replacement truck and call me shortly. I received a call from Mel about an hour later to tell me that there are no spare trucks available. I explained to her that I needed a truck and this was going to cause me a lot of issues as I had made a lot arrange around this truck being available. Mel then said she will see what else she could do. I did not here back from Mel, I called her in late afternoon to find out what was happening. Mel informed she was not able to find a truck and sorry. I can not believe that such a large rental company can not have a spare truck. Mel really did not want to concern her self with the problem.

I am very disappointed with the way the thrifty has dealt with this matter and the unwillingness to make other arrangements. Seeing if I canceled the booking I was going to be penalized $50. The least Thrifty could of done is credit me $50 for my trouble. I have rented trucks from thrifty several times a year. How ever after this I do not think I will deal with Thrifty again. Hertz have been kind enough to put me on a corporate rate and help me out. I will be making sure I let all my associates know that Hertz are a more helpful company.

For the record, Budget arent any good either. I was without a car and was riding my pushy everywhere. I booked a car and they sent me to the wrong place to collect. Then when I dinged it, they wanted to over charge me by 300 bucks by trying to use the old hidden fees crap.

Sorry, I should clarify. I wanted to pay for it but they were going to overcharge me for the rental of the vehicle not the repairs.

Repairs was 600 bucks... was cool with that, paid for that straight away cause I was in the wrong.

RENTAL was supposed to be $210 but they charged $510. They added "stamp duty", "transfer fee" and "admin fee". None of which was told to me when I signed. They said "Its gonna be 210 bucks for the 4 days, no more to pay".

I once hired a truck, can't recall which company it was, and drove to Sydney and back and just before I returned the truck I refuelled it at the nearest servo about 1km away. When filling it I waited until the pump clicked off and then took it up the next dollar as I do with my car. Apparently this was not good enough for the hire company and they claimed the truck wasn't full and that more fuel could be put in and then they charged extra to my friend who's credit card was used as security. Won't be going back to them again.

we used thrifty on our trip to NZ recently, tank wasn't filled (10L short) and the rear left tyre was bald, reported it when we got back but i can gaurantee you my uncles credit card hasn't been reimbursed for their stuff up which with a bald rear tyre in the snow could've been fatal

When a vehicle is rented it is often mistreated and destroyed. Unfortunately this happened to you. Do you expect Thrift to have a surplus of trucks out the back just in case one gets written off???

I the think the blame should be pointed to divers that smash and write off hire vehicles!

Thrifty is a company that entered into a contract and then failed to provide the goods. As to why.. it's irrelevant and not XPcoupes problem as he is a customer.
It is up to Thrifty to replace or compensate for renegging just as it would have been required of XPcoupe to pay a fine if he had reversed the situation.

Its simple business.. fulfill your contract or compensate for not doing so.. in this case Thrifty did neither.

we went and hired a thrifty truck last year in Hervey Bay, they said it was in perfect condition and if damaged we lost our deposit and had to pay excess,ok fair enough,go out to truck and it has huge dent in roof corner of pan and passenger mirror is broken plus drivers window winder is broken mate says dont worry they would have taken it out of last person,no i say go back into office and point out faults first,so i win and we go back inside where the girl tells my mate he must have broken window and mirror,WTF, get manager,manager comes out and tells her off as he knew of problems, thank god we went inside or when returned im positive we would have been hit for damages.as im sure manager knew we had not driven anywhere yet so put on a show for us.

I had a Thrifty truck booked a couple of years ago to help friends move house... They had double booked it and when I went in to pick it up, someone else had already driven away in it... They got on the phone and about an hour later, a Budget truck pulled in the drive and away I went... They refunded me 30% of the hire fee for my inconvenience.

A few years back when I moved house me and my mates rented a 3 tonne truck. Turned up on the day to pick it up - they said it hasn't come back. Then he asked if any of us had a heavy vehicle licence - which my mate had - and then offered us an 8 tonne truck instead for the same price. Didn't need to stack anything up for the move after that.

A really good way to get action from things quickly is to send an email/letter to the orginal store/shopfront you dealt with outlining the full history of your dealings and all the problems. Then you also 'CC' it to their regional office, head office and even the CEO.

They will get it and usually act on it quickly to avoid getting in 'trouble' from the higher offices. Sometimes it will just take to long if you go straight to the head office because they get so many of these type of things. I doubt the CEO would ever actually read it, but the fact that there is one sitting in his inbox, is sometimes enough to make people move their behinds and fix problems.

Well it has been over a week since I sent the email to there head office and No Response. Just goes to show that Thrifty have no customer service or care. Well they are on my black list now.

^ I imagine the contract that he signed did have exit clauses for this sort of thing happening.

As for Thrifty, its 80% owned by Mitsubishi. If their dealerships and car servicing are anything to go by then you'll never get one.

Hired a truck from Delta in Dandenong a few years back when we moved into new house.
All was good until we reversed up the sloping driveway to load up, low and behold, hand brake did'nt work!. Lost one of our helpers as even though we chocked the wheels, it was too dangerous to leave.
When we returned the truck and mentioned it to the attendant he did'nt give a toss.
Fired off a letter, asking why an Un roadworthy vehicle was hired out and pointed out that Vic-roads would be very interested in our experience.
We were duly compensated.
