hi all, looking at a 1979 s2 ford escort tomorrow for a mate, anything that anyone reccomends to look out for? engine wise?

look for one that has a worked 2L pinto motor and suspension mods, also a 5 speed sierra manual 'box with a short shifter is great too. And those new superlite rims with yokohama AO32 semi slick tyres are awesome for grip... wait a minute, i happen to have one exactly like that at my place for sale!!!
you wouldn't be in perth by any chance? |

Rust is a problem in the rear mostly. Check the rear c pillar. Stick your hand up as far as possible in the boot behind the hinges and feel for the rust. Gearboxes and motors were usually strong but the electrics were cr@p. Plenty these days have been raced for hillclimb and club events. Great fun car though plenty of go in a small body but can be a bit twitchy in the wet if you stiffen up the suspension too much. Good luck

oh well haha
look for rust though, under/inside all the pillars...everywhere!!! you don't want to have to do rust repairs down the track. |

i will take 4k, i haven't advertised it anywhere which is stupid of me because my xw will be finished in a few weeks so i need space in my garage. the car is very rarely used as i work away most of my time (southern cross, where i am typing this now) and its in perth.
can orgainse to see it whenever you want if you wish. |
