Default exchange 5.5 store.exe running 100%

Anyone in IT had this before.

We have an NT4.0 SP 6a running exchange 5.5 SP4.

This is due to be retired at xmas yesterday it had a controller failure, after re-boot and a repair disk it came good (its out PDC so thank god).

The problem is now that store.exe for exchange 5.5 is running at 100%.

I have applied just about every hotfix I can find and rebooted a few times.

Also it can send email external, it can send internal, but incoming mail is not working, all queues seem normal as well.

long shot i know, but hey I am stuck.

Jason

turn off all the exchange services, then reactivate them all one by one in order to see what triggers the cpu spike is a good start. Dismount the store, see if the problem still occurs. Theres a hundred problems it could be in regards to corruption from controller errors.

Whats the backups like on this server? You might need to bring it back

Does it work any better when the internet mail connector is turned off?

I haven't had to support 5.5 for a long time (thankfully), but this link has helped me in the past. Its basically a plan for troubleshooting store.exe when it is maxing out CPU; http://support.microsoft.com/default...13&Product=ech

tried most of that, will have to try

10. If none of the above steps fixes the problem, back up the existing databases files. Then run ISINTEG -fix -pri and ISINTEG -fix -pub.

Otherwise working on other plans at the moment.

In 2006??? hehehe j/k

Has the server crashed recently? It could just be replaying all the log files back into the main database and performing recovery. It's been years since we've used 5.5 here so I can't remember all that much about it.

Perhaps try stopping the IS using the edbutil and isinteg utils to check and correct the IS stores.
