Default Got the Shakes

My car has developed a lil annoying problem, its kind of a little shake/vibration but it can't be pin pointed because it doesnt not do it all the time.
Things it does: 0-50km/h sometimes it shakes and most times it doesnt.
50-100km/h sometimes it shakes and most times it doesnt.
Because sometimes it does and then doesnt i can pick it. I first thought it was the tarp flapping in the wind but it does it without it.

My thoughts are:
-A wheel weight has come off or they are just poorly balanced.
-Front shocks are getting on and causing this feel. Rears are Brand new.
-worn front end rubbers/bushes
-Cant be brakes because they are all new and it was there before them.

When it shakes it shakes my front door a bit and you can hear the rubber door seals rubbing together.

Any thoughts? or anyone had this problem?

i also get it occasionally, but i put it down to the roads around where i live, they are, let me just say, very bad lol

Mine does it occasionally too, I think it may be a crappy wheel balancing job.

go get all the wheels balanced and aligned...cheap fix if thats the problem. if not then i'd start looking at suspension....but it sounds like a loose wheel weight.

Funny this thread should pop up, I'm having the same problem, sometimes it will shake sometimes it wont. I've also noticed that when I pull off after parking for a while the car seems to roll with a "limp". Only have it aligned and balanced not long ago, thinking of taking it back

Thanks for replys, ill try and explain it a bit more, it kind of feels like those little ripples that the heavy trucks put in the road and the car is going over them and shaking slightly. when its a new rd its not noticable, but im thinking its doing this because something has gone wrong and is now being affected by these little ripples.

Strange, mine seems to do that aswell.
I talked to a ford dealer about the vibration the utes get at around 100kph, and he said due to the length of the ute, it develops a body harmonic!

Its seeming that this shake/vib is gonna be a common one lol. Here i was thinking that it'll be a quick fix. Oh well

wheel bearings,tie rod ends,steering rack, out of round tyres a few other things to look at, a front end alignment and check would be the go i reckon, had mine done few months ago bloody grouse ......money well spent

Well if thats the shakes i get with this cam, cant wait for an even bigger one in th stroker.

I think im gonna go with the wheel alignment and wheel balance first, an alignment couldnt hurt anything. Is there a way to check the tie-rods and rack?

The cam im looking at for now has 226in-230ex at 0.50 and .550" lift. 2200-6200rpm, the only thing i cant decide on is 112 or 110 lobe sep. The lumpier the better so i think 110.

Yeah, jack it up and have a look see, kick the tyres, all usual stuff.
Had mine aligned not long ago, and had the wheels balanced at the same place when i got them so that doesnt seem to be my problem.

I might jack it up and see if there is any play or anything in the front area. with the alignment and that i cant hurt its been 5000kms since the last one so a touch up wont hurt.

Comp is 10.4 bit high but with a nice tune from chris should set it off nice.

Yeh i cant wait, i havent done much work on it lately, the block is all machined up just waiting the final wash up and paint. We have a backlog of engines to get through i just havent had much time afterwork, and the boss gets shitty if i stop working on work and pull out my eng and start on it when we have so much to do. The price to pay for free machining and cheap parts i guess.

I get the shakes on sitting on 90 - 100 k's, anything more or less and it is fine...

Has anyone thought about flat spots on the tyres? I do a lot of brake testing and it sounds like something that I get after 1 too many skids. As the tyres rotate at different rates when cornering sometimes that flat spots do not "align" and it's not so bad, but when the flat spots on both fronts line up it can be pretty bad....just a thought.

ABS = No locked brakes!! so no flat spotted tyres here... not that ive actually triggered the ABS, ive always pulled up before it gets to kick in.
and no chance of a rear flatspot..lol

I dont think it would be that at all, ive never actually locked the fronts up at all and the rears get a good smooth out 5 times out of 10 :eclipsee_

But a good note tho thanks for bringing it up, though not my problem.

interesting, i thought my ute was special. lol
i spoke to ford service back when i bought my ute a few years back, as it has a vibration at 114-118kph under load, and he explained to me the previous owner had put superlows in the front and left the rear stock height, and its causing the tailshaft to get a vibration.
I dont know how true it is, as i never investigated further as it rarely gets over 105.

Not sure what wheels you are running, they look factory BA??.. but either way, check the size of the alignment hole in the middle of the wheel.

The wheel bearing cover on falcon is probably 70mm, whereas a lot of aftermarket wheels will be bigger (75mm), and need an alignment ring.

Mine were thrown away or neven put on in the first place.. The alignment rings are only 5 bucks each and work a treat.

You will know if this is the issue as the problem will not be consistant, sometimes front end, sometimes rear etc.

I doubt factory rims would have the issue?? but no harm in checking it out!

I thought the wheels located on the tapper on the wheel nuts? i could be wrong tho, and yes they are the BA xr8 18in.

I have ABS as well, so same deal, but I have activated mine a couple of times... Still, Im interested in what other solutions others have found for this problem.
