Default Stereo Control Buttons

G'day All,

Hoping everyone had a great Christmas.

I want to install my Sony MP3 player into the SR Sedan. I could do that myself easy enough I'd reckon, but I want to be able to use the wheel mounted control buttons.

The unit itself doesn't have a remote, but that was an option. The guy at JB HI FI this moring said they have an adaptor for my unit, at a cost of $149. The fitting of it all would be $70 and the extra din storage would be $25. That's a total of $244 installed.

The unit itself only cost me $200 last year. I really, really enjoy using the wheel mounted controls, but am having trouble justifying the cost.

What are your thoughts please?

Also, anyone heard of a place that could do it cheaper? The unit is a Sony CDX S2200.

Cheers,

GK

I sympathize with ya man, when i got my head unit i lost the steering controls and i miss it heaps! I'm considering getting one of those adapters so you can use em but i just dunno if its worth the money you gotta pay...

if the unit doesnt have a volume knob/wheel then the buttons rule. but i dont use the buttons all that much...

what im trying to say, i guess, is that for $244 i wouldnt worry about it.

$250ish is a bit rich. But you use the buttons 100's of times a day!

Decisions decisions! LOL!

Chances are that you won't go to your grave $250 richer...

I guess that the rationalisation is "how much would you pay for them"?

If you'd pay $100 for them then the true discrepancy is $150. If you plan on keeping the car for three more years it works out at roughly $2 per week for the convenience...

Hope that helps, lol.

I think I'll do it.

I can recover some of the cost of the installation by selling the old unit.

There is one currently in the "for sale" section for $150 ono.

Just use your left hand to control the head unit - you get used to it after a while, and it's free. $250 is not what I would call money well spent, but then it's your car.
