I've noticed of late that when accelerating up hills, my interior fan will loss its ability to stay on face outlet and will revert to demister. As soon as the heavy acceleration stops, the fan returns to the correct outlet.
Do I have a vacuum problem or is this normal?

I think this is normal. If you have the heater on, and put your foot down, it turns itself nearly off, so your car isnt so sluggish. Also does the same with the aircon.

Sorry my friend but you have a vacuum leak somewhere. The most common on Series II and III is the switch block above the radio.
See if you can find someone to check it out for you. |

I have the same problem after about 3 or 4 runs at the drags. Goes away after about 20 minutes though.

It seems to occur quite frequently. every time i accelerate hard, the fan just cuts to demister immediately. Getting quite annoyed with it.

Had a feeling that was it as I remember the long thin tube behind the switch snapping off when I re-installed it and thinking it will be fine, unfortunately you will have to replace to whole vacuum switch as it's impossible to glue/weld back on. Part no. for my series 3 AU is 10-13686, hers a pic and you can see where it's circled is where it snapped off.
