ba box wouldn't be a straight swap, though it has been done. AU's have T5's which are a dime a dozen, go to any wreckers there bound to have plenty

I feel ur pain i did the same thing a few nights ago for the second time in almost 2 years. I do know to get the T5 reconditioned it will cost 2g+. I'm not to sure about the BA box being a straight swap tho but if it is go for it as i'm looking in to it now for my car. The BA box would have to be a lot stronger in my opinion as i know of 2 that run 11 second quaters.

Cheers Mark

T56 into an AU $8000+ Fitting
I'd be looking at getting a S/H one from the wreckers. Or a rebuild at your local gearbox joint. It would have to be cheaper for a rebuild than $2000??

Is it much work to fit the same box thats in the 5.6L T3's?

Surely they would be a better solution then chucking in another T5 and waiting for the same thing to happen again & again & again & again...

you have probably dropped a bearing on your box.. its usually the 1st.R bearing.. it makes awful noise when driving around

From who Ned Kelly?

You can buy brand new 3650 Tremac 5 speed boxes as used in the XR8 & BAGTs for $850
So $2000 for a rebuild on a BW T5 is rubbish! Go to someone else. :

To be honest with you i don't know why the BA XR8 box wont fit but i would imagine the bell housing maybe different as far as blot holes lining up, the depth of maybe a lot different to. Who knows but i am looking into it.
Do you know anyone who will do a quality rebiuld a box for less than 2000? I know thats what G&D charges as i had it done there last time.

You would have next to zero chance finding one and if you do about 4-5grand second hand, even though they are a tremec 3650 they have been heavily modified by tickford to fit the au.
Tickford had to build an intermediate bellhousing to fit behind the original bellhousing to bring the gearstick back a fair bit otherwise the gearstick would hit the dash thats why a BA tremec 3650 wont fit an AU.
The AU tremec 3650 also has a chevy pattern 26spline input shaft and therefore you will need another clutch plate and worst of all ford has next to zero parts for these things . :

BA tremecs dont have a provision for speedo gear, i also heard that they are 4" too long aswell.
If it can be done cheaply, that box would already be sitting in my ute..lol.

I thought G&D were a tuning shop simular to Herrod???
They would most likley just pull the box out & send it off to be fixed anyway.

The guy I use is in Tumbi umbi about 15Ks north of Gosford NSW.
So I dont think he'll be any good to you.
You will be better of tracking down a gearbox & diff place near you, tell them you need the box looked at & repair any parts that need reparing. NOT reco the box as it may not need it. [a couple of new bearings, third gear set, & some sincro rings] & that mabe it!

When racing with the T5 B/W third gear was the weakest link in them, so we got the box rebuilt using all the V8 bearings & gears & what not, as they do in the saloon car racing. I havent been invovled in it for some time, so Im out of the loop now.

But I suggest, find out who rebuilds the boxes for the series & give them a call. They'll have all the right info for you, then you can order the bits you need & get someone [gearbox & diff joint]to put it all togther for you. Should save you a fair bit, just a little bit of reserch goes a long way. : :

I've been thinking about this a bit lately.

The auto in the SR is a bit dodgy (crummy changes mostly down, but a few up in today's heat) and I have a shuddering at some speeds, when slowing down. I understand that this could be the torque converter?

I know the solenoids in the box need doing $450 and if the tc was stuffed too, it'd almost be worth the while going a manual conversion for the old girl.

Make it much more fun to drive I reckon!
