Default Help needed with symbol

Hey guys.

A lady at work has an AU11 & it has come up with a symbol on the dash which is an exclamation mark in a circle. Does anyone know what this means? We've looked in the owners manual & it doesn't actually say anything about it in there. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Kristy.

Kenny, the handbrake light when the handbrake is on comes up as a P with a circle around it... we already checked that ;)

Mine usually comes off after a couple of seconds... I have no idea...

It doesn't mention anything in the manual at all?

No...i said that we've checked the manual :P there is nothing in there at all, shows a picture of the instrument cluster & it shows the actual symbol as being on there but it doesn't say what it means.

Ahh thank you Tibbo, I just asked her if she had noticed that her brakes were a bit spongy & she said that she actually lost brakes about a week ago while she was driving on the motorway...hehehe :

It is seriously not in this book. It shows it in this book as being the P symbol not the exclamation mark.

How silly is that!

What happened to the good'ol BRAKE FAIL light?

Geez.

If it lit up for me, I'd be all like; "What are you trying to exclaim? Stop exclaiming at me!"

It's uncanny how similar that page is to the same page in the BA/BF V8 FPV manuals:

She consulted the user manual, it did NOT have any information in there as to what that symbol meant. She is not car savy, and no she is not blonde. I actually find it quite rude that you have said what you did. Not everyone knows everything about cars, ease up a bit on her.

She got a service done on her car not even a month ago and the mechanic said that next time she gets a service he'll have to do the brakes, not that the brakes are stuffed and that they need doing asap. She doesn't know how to change the brakes etc so she just went on what he has told her.

OH and just FYI, she doesn't drive every day... it happened on the weekend and she hadn't driven the car since... She actually bought the manual into work so that we could figure out what it was. So get your facts straight before you start judging someone

That is absolutely disgraceful that the mechanic didn't have more of an idea of how bad the brakes were.
Has she contacted the mechanic to let him know?

Thank goodness nothing happened when she was driving it and well done to her to use common sense enough to get help (from yourself and the manual).

The same light came on in my car yesterday just after my brakes caught fire, it went out tho once they'd cooled down.

I got in my friends car a while ago & asked him what the light was about & he said the light was broken as it had been on for weeks, I popped the bonnet & he had no brake fluid. :

I went to her place last night & checked the brake fluid, which it had heaps... and after I had done that the light went out, which we thought was weird... she's still going to take it to the mechanics though.

The low fluid level is operated by the rubber diaphram attatched under the cap touching a switch located in the reservior. By removing th cap, you have allowed some air into the reservior, relieving the vaccuum, and the contact. It is common for this to happen with a car that has worn the brakes low. It is not a drama, and has illuminated the light primarly because the mechanic has failed to top up the low brake fluid level. The oil has dropped because the callipers have expanded to compensate for the lack of pads, as they have worn.

Get the brake pads replaced, job fixed. Find a decent mechanic, who carries out your servicing, as he is paid to do so!

Cheers,
Mike
