Every time I engage the clutch I get a strange loud squeaking sound. Sounds like its coming from behind the cabin in the rear of the ute somewhere.
Along with this sound is also a small , almost a grinding type of noise. Dont know how long that ones been around, but just noticed when listening more carefully to the squeaking. Any ideas ? |

Sounds like the thrust/release bearing for the clutch.

remove tailshaft
remove gearbox throwout bearing sits on input shaft actuated by clutch fork while u are there i would suggest to inspect friction plate for wear, pressure plate for heat spots and flywheel for lip and heatspots plus check gearbox oil, rear main seal for oil leak and shifter bushes for wear. thats what i would do, as for being hard .. no not really, just pain in the butt

throwout bearing can seize which then can wear into the pressure plate fingers, but i havent seen one fail from one day to another

ok guys,
This problem really sounds like a water pump with a thrown bearing, but its definately not the pump. It must be a thrust bearing or something caquse the sound changes with the clutch engaged, and its worse in lower gears than higher ones. I have to drive it all day for three nmore days till I can get it fixed on the weekend. Am I likely to get away with it ? thanks. |

Yeah its a *****, especially when I work as a courier, no car, no pay.
A/C clutch hey? Anyway of telling in a pinch if that MAY be my problem? Im guessing if I dont have the fan running, and that metallic grinding sound is there, then it isnt the problem? |

Now everytime I engage the clutch, the car makes a very loud high pitched squealing sound.
Im thinking its the the clutch cable seeing last service they told me it was stretched. Can a dud clutch cable cause this problem? The car is going in on the weekend, im trying to get a idea before then. Thanks again |

does it get harder to engage gears? stretched cable would cause for the clutch not to completely engage ...
as for squeeling ... not really
