Was out driving last night, got to my driveway (about 150mtrs of dirt road) and proceeded going at walking pass as usual, got to a bit of a gulley and when I applied the brake I got a bit of a groaning noise coming from the rear. Now at walking pass when I just apply the brakes enough to hold the car stationary I have this groaning and a bit of a knocking noise in the rear but whilst stationary with this noise if I push the brake pedal down a bit more it goes away. So where should I start looking? Brakes (I doubt it), diff or tranny?

Brakes. Mine does the same, but only since I put slotteds in it. Hoping it will go away once I fit the BA rears.

Well so I've found today, it only does it when brakes are barely applied enough to keep the car stationary on the dirt, but on the road it does it when its creeping. Its just strange

are your cars ABS? it could be the sensors or fluid level/condition. may be worth getting it checked

I also have the dreaded diff clunk, but not much I can do about that until it totally dies.
