No, i did all my fascia/gutter and pergola in water based.
Use a good solar guard for external, water based makes it easy to wash the brushes.

water based paints won't last as long as oil based, but like others have said much easier to clean and use.

This is what a lot of people think, but is actually wrong. The water based paint will outlast the oil as it is more flexible, retains it's shine (won't fade as oil will) and is developed to tolerate more adverse conditions.

what part of the house are you looking to paint, and what kind of $$$$ are you willing to spend. there are many different external paints that i could recomend, but all depending on what your budget is. some of the best paints are resene or solver bright glo range. these would be the best two in an acrylic range but they are also the most expensive. Alternatively you could use Dulux X10, or Haymes premium exterior Acrylic.

As a painter i can tell you it can come off if you paint it just before it rains, but if your brain works and you paint on a good day it would be fine, oh and you can get enamel paints that clean up in water now, excellent stuff!

and dont paint on a really cold foggy day as it might not dry sufficently before night falls which when you wake in the morning will leave runs and circles on the bottom of your gutters etc. and yeah water based paint is the way to go for sure ,alot of countries especially european have banned oil based nowdays so most jobs can be done as well with water based(not all though)
