Default AU II after market stereo installation

I have just bought a new stereo and want to fit it.

I have bought the bottom pocket from ford to close the gap
but the facia has a more rounded corner on the top of the existing hole compared to the new stereo.

How can i install the new steroeo and create a clean finish without leaving any gaps.

I'm sure this has been done in the past.

Any info would be valuable.

I have attached a sketch to better explain my problem.

Hi and welcome to the forums

Yeah you guessed right, it's been done before. Try searching for it.

Your stereo should of come with a surround that would close up the gap around the stereo
As for mine, i mounted my unit as far back as the facisa would allow then created a surround out of 0.5mm thick polished aluminium to close the gap

Cheers

i searched the web and found a facia kit from AERPRO that would have been perfect but was told it's only for an AU I.

Didn't know there was a difference between AUI and II stereo shapes.

anyone else find these facias, any for AU II they have heard about.

the au1 unit from aeropro is a perfect fit for the AU2 i have one in my car and it fits perfect but the colour is different but a bit of vinyl colour fixed that I also used "the cat" adaptor and the steering wheel controls work fine this unit although expensive is well worth the cost

That facia is actually about 1 1/2 din. I ordered one and found out when it arrived. To my knowledge aerpro don't make a surround to suit single din + pocket.

I cut down my aerpro so that it would fit with the pocket. It will do until I figure out which dvd player and screen buy.

Mine is an AU3 and is double din.

From that pic it looks as if the aerpro surround + pocket that you pictured earlier will fit nicely.

NO it wont.

I have one sitting here that i brought years ago and is definitely to small, as someone else said its about a din and a half.

There is another one floating around that can be brought from AudioXtra or on ebay i think, but it dose look rather gay i think, as it has no pocket and just fulls in where the pocket normally is.

Just get the pocket from ford and pop rivet the cradle in like everyone else dose...

Well, it may be the angle is deceptive but that sure doesn't look like a double din opening to me.

How about measuring the od and posting up for the op's reference?

I did the opposite to superroo, put the headunit in its security cradle and
moved it forward till the front edge of it was just past sitting flash with the rest of the dash, bent the tabs in then made a little cradle that holds the headunit cradle up and screwed it into the dash. I've got the AUI pocket underneith with my UHF mounted in it.

Naaah, the difference is that yours is a low series (Forte/Futura) dash while the other ones shown are high series (Fairmont/Fairlane) dashes.

Doesn't affect the curvature at the bottom of the dash where the head units fits.

Yeah, it was actually me that said that up above.

I bought one and cut it down to suit the double din opening with pocket (pic also above).

looks neat from front view.

how does it look from the side.

does the base of the stereo hang out a little due to the curvature of the facia ?

i guess there's nothing you can do about that.

done.

installation $80 and pocket $20

not perfect, but looks ok.

Installer told me that pioneer units fit better that sony.

If you are planning on replacing original with after market i suggest have it done proffesionally.

Save yourself alot of hassel for just $80.

Nice job mate, looks good... did something similar myself except I used MDF instead of balsa.
