Hi,
So i have decided after school i want to complete an audio engineering course. The only place i am considering going is SAE, because it is the industry standard and they are located all around the world. Now i have two choices, I can attend SAE in byron (Which is the worlds best) and complete a 2 year diploma and degree course which works out to be about $28000. This was my original plan, and in the 2nd year they set you up with some work in the industry. After this i was considering moving to the states, as i consider there would be more work there. My 2nd option is to attend SAE in Los Angeles, which also looks like a very good campus although they only offer the diploma and it is a fair bit more expensive then just doing the diploma at the byron campus. That being said it includes in the cost: Apple MacBook with one year of AppleCare, Pro Tools LE MBox2, Peak, Logic Express, & class text books. By the look of this course it looks to be alot more hands on, with nearly half the course spent doing studio time. This works out to be around $23000 AU. But includes the laptop and the software which is worth alot of money. After this one year course, they then help provide you with work which leans me towards not needing to do the two year course. Anyway sorry about the long thread. But hopefully someone can help me. Need some advice Cheers Shane Heres the link if you want a look: http://www.sae.edu/ |

Im doing the Diploma at Milton in Brisbane ( SAE)
I know that you need to go to Byron to do the Degrees You don't need to buy any equipment...obviously it helps.... I bought Pro Tools /mbox 2 pack for $850....You would be selling yourself short if you didn't have a decent computer They use macs at college but the programs are all still the same....and you can use Interchangable Audio files any way...if your swapping between platforms We haven't spent much practical time.....Im nearing the end of my first year(part time) They encourage us to look for free work in studios/pa companys/stage crews etc etc nones going to find you a job Im enjoying the course and im meeting great people |

Hi,
Yeah its just this course in Los Angles it seems like they do alot more practical based work, considering they supply you with the laptop and what not to keep. Theres a photo on the site of a class and they all have their macs out. Also the diploma at Los Angeles, its a 900 hour course, and something like 360 of those hours is individual studio time. How much is the course costing you in brisbane? |

Id say the more Prac time the better... Theory is pretty intensive at times but it all gels together when you do the practical.
I think i'll end up paying around 11 grand |

i hope you want to do audio engineering 28k isnt pocket money.
anyways the LA based one sounds like the winner though whats living costs gonna be like? wheres the falcon going? whos paying? what do you get out of it? is that uni/education place recognized? will you need to do further education after to advance yourself or do you go straight into the work force? it may seem like im trying to put you off but if someone told me that last year i would not have done IT at uni i would have just done mech engineering. dont not go because of something sort it out, ask for help and i have a very close friend who works in the (almost top job) education department, she calls employers and education mobs to put these people through...gimme a yell if you need a hand.

Yeah im thinking the LA one would be better off. It is highly accredited, the SAE schools are the best you can go to in the world. The most highly recognised. Nah wouldnt need to do anymore study, it says they help you get work placement and what not. I would have to find out about living costs and what not, although i may have someone to share rent with, as she wants to do the same thing. Falcon would have to be sold, which is sad considering id only have it for 2 years or so lol and its such a nice car. So yeah, it would be a big move and what not, im just trying to work out if the extra money for the LA course would be worth it. That laptop and what not would be worth about 4 grand, so that takes it down to $18000. Which is only about 4 grand more then the other course. |

So you think go for the Los Angeles Course?
Its like $22000 (Including laptop and everything) for the 1 year diploma course against $27000 (No laptop etc) For the 2 year degree? |
