I have this constant arguement with my husband because I was taught to put it in gear with handbrake just as a little insurance policy, but then there is something to be said in the arguement against...particularly for those in man. vehicles who have someone get in and not check and then jerk it forward trying to start it.

This has been quite an eye opener!
I've always had any car I own in gear and handbrake on! I'm amazed anyone would rely on a handbrake on any surface! The one time I accidentially left my car in neutral happened to be the time my diff specialist had failed to re-connect the handbrake properly.... and it rolled down a hill into a power pole. |

i park all my trucks IN gear, on any incline, or flat surface + handbrake, with the exhaust brakes active as well. my brother made the mistake of leaving his in neutral with a dodgy handbrake... came back out side and found his car down the hill in someones front bedroom.
who ever said you should NEVER park a truck or car in gear is a clown. |
