I actually had to drive through there for legitimate reasons (To drive from Caringbah Bunnings to Sylvania Kmart to pick up some stuff) Going through the suburb I saw 2 guys carry out a sofa to the side of the road next to some junk. I turned around a few mins later and checked it out. It was in almost perfect condition, except for the cushions missing...

No way I could fit it in the Focus so I had to leave it. Would have been great in the back patio at home :(

Reminds me of the time me and some friends were crusing around the local streets at around 2am looking for a mate we were picking up. Anyway we find a old steel bathtub around Ambarvale, and thought what can we do with this. Within a few mins we picked up the mate, and were heading towards Austinmer beach (45 mins away) A bathtub on the roof of a Pulsar being held down by the passengers grasp isn't the most aerodymanic or stable thing in the world at 100kmh and seeing a bathtub fly off the roof in the rear vision is a pretty funny thing to see. It acutally got about 4 metres lift before slamming onto the road in a trail of sparks.

Anyway we get down there without too much drama, Plug the drain hole pvc pipe from underneath with an orange had in the car and went about night boating. It went fairly well when loaded with 200kg of people, until the time when you wanted to actually go anywhere. due to the tubs round shape it ended up capsizing a few times in the 300 meters we went and the orange fell out the bottom of it after about 20 mins causing us to abandon ship on the Austinmere sand bank. Salt water soaked and cold, we went back to Campbelltown for a well earned Kebab.

It is still illegal to scrounge, whether these things are being thrown out or not.

1.) Even if it's out on the nature strip, it's still the personal belongings of the residents. It's classed as theft if you just grab something and take off with it. Unless you speak to the owner and ask for permission to take it, it's theft and there are big fines for scrounging, police action does actually take place.

2.) The council pays companies like the one I work for to collect everything that gets thrown out. The more rubbish that gets picked up, the more these companies make. So when people scrounge, the waste companies lose money. It's then looked at as theft from the company. The company goes through the police and that's where the fines and whatnot basically come from.

3.) There's also the fact that some people don't like people scrounging through their crap because although it's out on the nature strip and waiting to be thrown out, it's an invasion of privacy. If permission hasn't been asked to look through it all, the residents of the house actually have the right to press charges over it.

Also, the blokes who get the job of picked the crap up get sick of the knobheads who seem to enjoy going through everything, but appear to have even more fun spreading the crap all up and down the street, making the job harder and also breaking windows/TVs and whatever else.

I think they should legalise it as a lot of people do it anyway, even knowing that it is illegal.
