Traction Control

Gday all, another uneducated question here.

I pulled the panel on the dash out today to have me a bo-peep and noticed there was an extra connection not in use. I have noticed that this is the position of the traction control. So i had a little read in the owners manual and it didnt help me at all to say whether this connection could actually be used.

My question is, is this connection just part of the loom and is inactive and thats why they have just made it stick into the plastic or could this extra bit actually be active for traction control? If i put the correct button on would it actually work?

I thought i would try using one of the other buttons and see if it works but there was no point as the "connecter" things werent in the right spots.

Thanks for any light shed on this area by anyone but i am clueless to whether this is what i think it is and if it works?

I am pretty sure it would be they didnt want to make another loom up so they just used this one but i am still very curious.

As far as i know it wont work, i got the switch and it dont work.

traction control is more than just some code in the ecu, theres speed sensors an the wheels and i think a separate cpu box to work it

buckleys chance it's there and not in use

the loom is there...but the backing behind it is not :(

the tcs has wheel hub sensors
the wiring is there just in the stock loom...
but there is nothing at the other end... you will find the other end of it where the ecu for the tcs is sposeto be in au

Yeah i read that in the owners manual. Just wasnt sure if the actual system was setup and just either not in use or always in use so we cant turn it off?

My guess was its just part of the loom, seems i was correct.

No. Because the hydraulic modulator located in the engine bay is different for vehicles with ABS only versus vehicles with ABS and traction control. The extra plug is Ford saving cost by not having to order two different wiring harnesses.

seeing that picture with the button cover removed

you could put an extra switch in there and use the Fairlane cover (if you can get the correct colour or even if you colour match it your self).. then grab a button from the wreckers and have a STOCK looking for example Neon Turn on/off button etc..

in my Fairlane i pulled the same cover off the other day and found that there is 5 holes but the center one is covered by the GHIA badge in the dash..

does anybody know how to change the lights in behind those switches?? as the one for my power antenna i think (2nd from the left) is dead:(

yeah mate look carefuly youl see a round piece with a cut in it to unscrew with a screwdriver.there about $11 each at ford to replace

I have always wanted to turn my Fairmont badge in the center into a switch of some description... maybe driving lights

Hey off topic. But realated. When you took that cover off. did those buttons come out easy or not at all. My Door lock switch light has blown and i'm trying to think of the easiest way to replace it. I really don't want to take the whole centre bit out. Been there done that, not doing it again.
